And yet a new release to show those how doubt that Winamp is alive and kicking but sleeping until it's needed again to return and show those other blooted players what people want and what they should be!

So the only real change is this bugfix: * Fixed playFile function in gen_ff.dll (Allows Modern skins to launch playback). Umm, nice!

Please tell the marketing guys at AOL that we want another free mp3 already. You've been bundling that Silvertide song for ages now.

Nice news!
But I have one veery simple question: Why there is no any info about this new version on the main winamp page? And as far as I can see 5.08d was released 4-5 days ago... Why the download links still continue to lead us to 5.08c? Someone forgot to update the download section or what? I mean I hate to download some "beta" software.. And when there is no link for in on the main page, I think this is just a development build or something. Can someone explain it, please. I really want to know... ![]() |

Updates to the live winamp.com site usually happen a few days after the builds go live on the server, just a little slow updating this time :-/

The site is always slow to be updated.

Any time a moderator or admin (eg: Craig in this case) "stickies" a new topic named similarly to "Winamp 5.08d released!" and that topic is "stuck" (as a Sticky thread which only mods and/or admins can create), then you can always be guaranteed that each and every link there is an official release, and not some "development build" as you indicated above. Also, nothing ever offered for download at the Winamp.com site can ever be considered "beta" software, again, as you indicated. It would always be an official release, altough in this case, an older release since the site hasn't been updated yet. This, among other reasons, is why we always tell people to read the Stickies, which unfortunately they rarely do. People are lazy by nature in that regard. I even indicate in my signature to read the Stickies, but I might as well be beating a dead horse for what good it does. And as Mr Jones and I both indicated, the site is always slow to be updated. In this case, longer than usual. Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads. I hate winamp changelogs:
you have made Winamp 5.08, 5.08c and 5.08d and you have made an unique entry in the changelog so if I want to discover differences from 5.08/c/d how can I do? There are also some important security updates, so how can I discover if letter c is protected against this security flaws or not? Yes I download and install every last version, but I also install winamp to friends, and I want to know if they are protected with version 5.0x letter y or not! |

version 5.08c is protected against the in_cdda.dll security bug. 5.08d has a fix for playfile in gen_ff.dll.
5.08b contained the security fixes for mp4 iirc. |

Actually, it was 5.07 that was protected against the in_cdda.dll security bug...

Well, you can always go back and look at all the previously "stickied" threads that remain stickied until a new Sticky is posted with a more up to date release. Those threads are always posted in this Winamp Discussion forum when there is a new release and will usually have changelogs so that you can compare differences, including security flaw and bug fixes, as you had asked about. A few examples: 5.04 is out 5.05 out ! Winamp 5.06 is out.. Winamp 5.07 released Winamp 5.08d released! Quote:

No I will not do, this is only a suggest to make more clear your job, but I know that sometimes the mentality is: "I have done like this until now why I have to change it?" without thinking that changing in a best way isn't a bad idea. have a good day |

Unless I am missing a point here, you could simply visit the Version History (AKA ChangeLog) page at Winamp.com.
Winamp Download > Version HistoryAFAIK changes to 5.08 will be reflected in the "c" and "d" entries. |

nunzio, new cdda bug was fixed in 5.08c, old cdda bug was in 5.06.
Cimmo, whatsnew is updated when it needs to be. "need" is at the discretion of whoever does the release. |

Well, it took all of 30 seconds for me to locate and then post those thread references, but if you don't want to do that then just open Winamp and simply look at the Version History, which has Changelogs for the current as well as previous releases (but more detailed info is usually indicated in the Stickies)...

[EDIT] Aaack. Didn't see JM and Craig posts while I was just typing my response. Thanks for the heads-up, Craig. And the Version History page is a better option, JM. [/EDIT] |

Ok you are volunteer, I don't know who write the changelog, please tell the changelog-man that is better to have different entries FOR EACH version you have, this IMHO. Also you said: 30 seconds to go...ecc ecc. but who doesn't know the forum, just download winamp linked by another site and view the inside changelog? ![]() |

Yeah fore real. Each release contains the updates of the previous changes. There really is no reason to complain about what exactly was changed in a, b, c, d. Since the releases are coming out differently (short spans and usually one or two fixes) then they used to. Before we'd have to wait many weeks (and many months) before there was a new release.
I'm glad that they are putting out new builds with security fixes (like a hotfix) since it's necessary to inform people about bad bugs. So calm down dude, /Ieremiou |

Hi,
I am having a problem with 5.08d where after a while I will guru error and Winamp will revert back to the classic sdkin. This has happened with Drone and Avalon. I have to restart Winamp to get the skin back. Has anybody encountered this or is my installation borked. I have not tried 5.08e but doubt if that will fix my problem Thanks. |
