Playlist Skipping Problem.

So, yeah.

My Playlist. Dang man, that thing is skipping.

I have around 130 songs, and every now and then, when a song ends, it'll just skip through a bunch. Sometimes it's around 10, sometimes around 50 or so. It's kind of inconvenient.

edit: All of the songs seem to be .wma format, if that helps.
-

Like right now. It was at song 112, then skipped to 48, going forwards.

I've looked through a few other topics, and have tried stuff, but nothing seems to work. I figure actually posting a topic would be the best way.

Bare in mind that I don't know crap about my computer, so I'm fairly sure this is what is needed.

- Dell Dimension 8250.
- Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.40GHz.
- 254MB RAM.
- SoundMAX Digital Audio.
- WinXp sp2.
- DirectX 9.0c.
- 5.21.
- Full install.
- Shared installer option.

Thanks for any help. It's very appreciated.

Does it always skip the same songs? If so, have you changed what directory these songs were in since the playlist was last updated?

Or do you mean it's jumping around? You might have accidentally turned on the shuffle feature.

I don't think it's really the same songs. Then again, there are well over 100, so it's hard to be sure.

The directory is the same. In fact, I actually just re-updated the playlist, and it's still happening.

Nah, it isn't on shuffle. It's skipping through them, I'm afraid. It'll say 118 -, but then move to 119 -, then 120 -, etc. before it ever starts playing the song.

I've never really had any serious problems with Winamp. This is really rare.

You say the songs are in .wma? Do any .wma songs play? Make sure you have the proper codecs installed.

Yeah, all of them are .wma.

They'll all play if I manually click on them.

When it automatically switches to the next song at the end, sometimes it'll skip. :/

That is really strange? Do you have any third party plugins installed? Try starting winamp with no third party plugins.

have you tried a clean install You are using the latest version, aren't you?

Nothing? post full system specs including a hijack this log.

No, none at all.

I've tried a clean install a few times now, before posting the topic.

I posted what I thought were my specs in the first post. I'll give this hijacklog thing a try in a few minutes.

Alright, I have the log. Do you want me to just post it? It's pretty long.

hmmm. it seems a lot of people have had this problem. do any of the stepts here work?

edit//you can just post it, that's fine. you can also put it into a zip file and upload that. I might not be able to analyze it until tomorrow, though.

Hey, hey, take your time. I'm not rushing you at all. You're the one doing me a favor.

I'll try the DirectSound tweak. I figure I'll just try another clean install for the moment. I dunno.

I hope this isn't too long. :/

Edit: Phooey.

I did a clean install, then fiddled with the sound output.

It still skipped. *tear*

I figure I'll just install an earlier version.

Edit2: Well, I installed an earlier version, and it seems to be working.

Thanks for all the help. Sorry to have been a bother.
