Winamp crashes when Sansa e280 connected in MTP mode
Hello,
I've been trying to get Winamp and my Sansa e280v2 to work together for the last two hours, to no avail. The problem is as follows: Whenever I connect my Sansa e280v2 in MTP mode, Winamp crashes. If I start Winamp while it's connected, it will crash as well. Sometimes, it will crash only when a media file is played or the Library is opened. In general, the Winamp window disappears suddenly. I don't get any Error Reporting message or error message whatsoever. The exception seems to be if it's open when the Sansa is plugged in, and it doesn't crash immediately: in that case, when I do something that provokes a crash, it'll give me a "Winamp has encountered problems and needs to close," message. I clean installed, and at first it seemed to work. When I added a few random files to the ML and restarted Winamp, it crashed, and resumed its previous behaviour. This does NOT occur with my Sansa m150. Specs: - Pentium 4 Prescott, 2.4 GHz, Asus P4S800SE motherboard (I think). 768 MB of DDR RAM, Radeon 9600 Pro 128 MB (AGP) - Integrated sound card, "SoundMax Digital Audio" - WinXP Home SP2 - DX 9.0c - Winamp 5.51 Full Plugin list attached. Note that I reinstalled my old 3rd-party plugins—this isn't the clean install, but the default 1st-party plugins should be from the clean install. Thanks for any help. —Laogeodritt Note to self: Disabled pmp_p4s.dll until problem is resolved. |

Hmm, no help yet? Is it that difficult a problem? =\
I'd like to note that I did search the forums before posting (and Google, for that matter). It wasn't very fruitful—I have WMP10 installed, not 11, and the proposed update pack for 5.35 is useless, because, I presume, the updates to the plugins would have been included in later releases. Those were the only proposed solutions I came across. |

You're not the only one, I randomly crash winamp when working with my c240. I don't think the driver is quite stable yet. That is only my opinion.

Found a <s>solution</s> workaround!
Per a PM I received gagecalman, I looked through the installed software on my system and found a Windows Media Player 11 Runtime on my system. Apparently, Sansa Media Converter (InterVideo version) installed this runtime when I installed it. Uninstalling the runtime and restarting now allows Winamp to connect to the e280 and transfer fine. I'm not sure of the effect that uninstalling it will have on Sansa Media Player; it boots fine, but I don't have any videos I could use to test it. This brings me to the question: why does WMP11 cause Winamp to crash when trying to interface with portables via the Media Transfer Protocol (MTP)? Is it that pmp_p4s.dll is unable to use the MTP drivers (or whatever it may be) from WMP11? If so, is the Winamp team aware or working on it? |

I am now running into this same problem. Which really sucks since winamp is the only thing I can find that gives me the decent ability to properly order songs in a playlist.
This problem did NOT start until AFTER I upgraded (reluctantly) to Windows Media Player 10. That is the only thing that changed from when I could use winamp with it plugged in, and now, when I cannot. Immediate workaround I found was to rename the pmp_p4s.dll to a different .ext to stop winamp from loading it, which then also stops it from seeing my Sansa. But it seems to be related to that .dll and something that wmp10 must've done. Hope that helps. and I hope someone can fix it.

It's probably some piece of WMP11 you upgraded to? Check in add/remove programs and see what it says about Media Player. Thus far, I haven't seen anyone with WMP10 problems, only WMP11.
That being said, if you do find out it's WMP11, please take a second to add your problem to the thread I started in the Bug Reports section. The more people who add to it, the more attention it (hopefully!) gets. |

sansa e280 v2
I had problems with Winamp crashing as soon as my sansa e280 was plugged in. At first it would just lock up when copying music, then began crashing with a "Windows Error".
I contacted sansa support and they advised me to look on sandisk.com for the e280 product page which specifically lists the minimum requirements as: * Windows XP * Windows Media Player 10+ * CD-ROM drive * USB 2.0 port required for hi-speed transfer So I was basically told to use Windows Media Player 10 instead because Winamp is not supported. Using WMP 9.x works fine. In the past I have had too many problems after installing 10, so until 9 stops functioning or causes problems, I'm not d/l it. |
