Notes:

1. Improved: [ml_local] Media Library searches now ignore diacritics:
For example, a search for "Einsturzende" will now return results for both Einsturzende and Einstürzende;
a search for "Bjork" will return results for both Bjork and Björk, etc.

IMPORTANT:
Winamp 5.55 makes changes to the Media Library database that are not backwards-compatible with previous versions.
If installing on top of a current installation (as opposed to the recommended clean install), then you should make a backup of your local ml database files BEFORE installing 5.55 incase you ever want to revert to <5.541 and still be able to use the same database. The files which need backing up are %appdata%\winamp\plugins\ml\main.dat & main.idx

Note that the settings for each service are now saved in the "%appdata%\Winamp\Plugins\ml\omServices" folder,

Hopefully, skinned menus will eventually be globally available...

Category field = editable via 'Edit Selected Item(s) (Ctrl+E)' in the local media views right-click menu.
Category is a custom field that can be used for virtually anything,
eg. Night/Day, Party/Alone, Rock (for all types of Rock), etc.
Lossless is not a humanly editable field.
You can search the ml for ?lossless=1 to show all lossless formats (flac, alac, lossless wma, etc).
You may need to use 'read metadata on selected items' from the rt-click menu
for this function to work on pre-existing databases.

8. Winamp 5.551 is essentially just a security upgrade patch for v5.55
The only differences between 5.55 and 5.551 are:
-libsndfile.dll security fix
-winamp.exe build number
-whatsnew.txt
-a small undocumented fix in browser.maki (Bento skin Browser tab) which was causing some url's to error out.

For people who have already installed v5.55 and don't want to download 5.551 just for these updates, there's an upgrade patch available in the Updates section below.

It's exactly the same installer, whether it's got emusic in the filename or not.
The Emusic option is still there on the "Get the most out of Winamp" page of the installer, regardless.

If it really bothers you that much, save it as just winamp555_full_all.exe or whatever :-)

bug

winamp freeze when changing adv. visualization preset
Clean install

WinXP SP3
athlon xp1800+ 1.4 ghz 1GB memory

steps:

1 - play one music -- isn't necessary
2 - Ctrl+p and load advanced visualization plugin
3 - go to visualization tab
4 - choose a preset
5 - at botton of bento/visualization panel click on "previous visualization preset" arrow
6 - click in other part of winamp like tabs, volume slider, etc.

note that isn't happening with Milk drop

it's seems caused during the transitions of some "community picks presets" such ,"jay-fatboy - pieces of a dead world", "yathosho interlaced" and "el-vis spindle".

when changing these presets sometimes the CPU usage reach 100% then winamp hangs.

Great work guys! Loving the new release. I still get that crash with the editing of the browser's address bar though.
How do I produce a crashdump now that it's gone final?

Martin, I just noticed the Songbook Lyrics Online Service you wrote. You're awesome! Some configuration of text alignment and maybe font along the lines of LyricsPlugin would perfect it though. So glad you wrote it, it brings me much joy.

Oh and thanks devs for the Category ML field, will fulfill the function of getting all albums without album art out of my Simple Album view until something similar to a HASALBUMART=1,0 is added to the query language

This is great. The pmp_ipod now transfers album art the way that it should. Now I can see it in cover flow AND when the track is playing. Thanks!

I know that Will mentioned in a previous thread that he was working on the plugin to work with iPhone/iTouch with FW 2.x. Does this version have that capability?

So far so good, but I have to wonder - are there any future plans to fix the .m3u file association under Vista? It's been broken since version 5.52. I always end up installing 5.52 first to get the file associations correct, then install the last release over the top. I figured it would be safe to install 5.55 clean, so I uninstalled everything and started from scratch. Oops...still not working. I know the issue had been discussed in the past, because I've tracked it on Google in the past. Today is the first time I figured I should actively pursue the issue.

just testing this new version (under win xp), and i have 2 simple questions:
1- do we have full compatibility with latest gen. of iPod's and win 7 ?

2-i have disabled the tooltips for classic & modern skins but they still appear in the dropbox.

another bug or design error?

after uninstalling the now-playing plugin, media library still keeps his windows in smart view, keep trying to load and try connects to internet. The options "check for update" and send "report anonymous usage..", online services, etc are off..
in file info components still contains the item "open link in now playing"

ml_nowplaying.dll just adds the Now Playing view in the ML.
Are you referring to the Info Pane thing at the bottom of Local Media views?
If yes, then that's got nothing to do with Now Playing.

You can hide it per view by clicking the "Show/Hide Info" button.

Or you can disable it globally via:

Winamp -> Prefs -> Media Library -> Local Media -> Options tab:
Display "Show Info" in media and album views


The Bento -> MCV -> "Open links in Now Playing" report is valid though.
That item should either not be there or greyed-out if ml_nowplaying doesn't exist.

Hmm, Dropbox is a separate plugin. I guess it should have its own enable/disable tooltips option.
Though yeah, you'd expect it to follow the "Enable Tooltips" option in:
Prefs -> Skins -> Modern Skins -> General tab.
Though note how the Classic Skins option says "Display tooltips in Winamp's main window"

And remember... Dropbox is still in "alpha" stage.

No, alas, iPod Touch & iPhone support didn't make it into this release.
Hopefully for the next release :-)
As far as I know, all other models are supported.

Hmm, I still can't personally reproduce the .m3u association problem under Vista,
but I know that one or all of Dro/Benski/Maksim said they'd look into it...
As far as I know, it hasn't been addressed in this release,
though I think my regfix still works....?

the new tracking options are awesome...now playcount makes a lot more sense for me (i'm skipping a lot)

ML is faster too, which is great.

I like the new skinned context menu in the ML but the context menu in the playlist isn't skinned (i'm using classic skin)
not that I really care...but maybe this can be done in a future update (if possible).

5.55 really made my day...thx guys!

The Vista association is still very buggy.
*.wal files just dont work... dont have that user account protection stuff enabled btw...

Where are you selecting "nano device option" or selecting Classic or any other version? I dont see that anywhere in my setup?
