Stephen "Tag" Loomis leaving AOL !!!
Thats right the heart and soul of shoutcast for many years is moving on and leaving aol/shoutcast/nullsoft behind.
His parting with AOL is totally amicable and tag is looking forward to moving his talents in different directions. If you dont know who Tag is take a look at your dnas/server status page and see who it was writen by . Tag is also the driving force behind the yp,and the man who has kept it working for many years. Some of you may know tag better for his long running station " Tags Trip" which is available via http://somafm.com. A popular station maintained by a real music enthusiast. For now its still on the air and hopefully it will stay that way but that of cause is tags choice.. Where this will leave the future of shoutcast is unclear, but im sure if it keeps growing the way it has since 2002 AOL will keep it running for many years to come as it has huge potential. For now though i just want to take the time to thank Tag for all he has done for shoutcast and wish him all the best for the future. With his talents im sure he will go on to a prosperous and forfulling future. Fell free to leave your comments of thanks for tag in this thread (give him a good send off). Thanks for everything Stephen you will be missed I'm not here right now - leave a msg after the beep... |

Yeah, when I heard it a few days ago, I was really shocked. Tag was the key member of SHOUTcast, others would say Tag was SHOUTcast. Well, it was great working with you Tag and of course with all the others at SHOUTcast and I would like to say thank you for my whole team at RauteMusik.FM for your support and re-coding SHOUTcast 2.0. I hope the project will go on, but it is not what is was for now.
Good luck in the future! I am sure with your experience you will find a new job soon! Great man! |

Holy cow - it seems like the end of an era.
I'm glad the parting was amicable, but in my opinion AOL has lost a seriously talented individual. Best of luck to you, Tag, in whatever lies ahead. |

Best of luck to him in whatever it is that he will be doing.
On the selfish side, where does this leave SCv2? Your mileage may vary! |

Everyone,
Thank you for the kind words. It has been a pleasure working on SHOUTcast all these years and I plan to stay in the streaming arena if at all possible. With that said. If anyone is looking for a sharp engineer for their streaming services; please send me a PM and I'll be glad to send you my resume. As for the future of Shoutcast; it is in the very capable hands of Neil and Faisal. I wish them all the best! ...This concludes my broadcast day... Stephen 'Tag' Loomis ps: A bug I never got to fix in sc_serv, but know the work around for is the mysterious 'Drops Listeners and Source when YP doesnt resolv issue'. Increase your source stream and client idle disconnect timeouts to 1 or more minutes, instead of 30 seconds (the bug is that if YP fails to resolv, or has trouble returning from a Touch interval, it can cause the time to stall for the rest of the application, when it does return, clients and source may timeout) Powered by Redbull and Progressive House |

Tag, thanks for keeping shoutcast running all these years. Shoutcast is what got many broadcasters started and keeps them in business and I'm sure they too appreciate your work, even if they are not here to express it.
I'm sure you'll find yourself working on another wonderful piece of software in no time. |

with the loss of Tag in the Shoutcast team unfortunately I can only see the development of SC and all services grinding to halt quite quickly.
This is not because Tag has been doing all the development, Neil has been doing sc_trans 2, however having an advocate at his level keeps it in the minds of management. I hope I am wrong, but only time will tell. All the best in your next position Tag. BW Without open minds the world will die. Open yours and correct the mistakes you are making right now. |

Yup, I installed the latest Winamp on a machine today, and noticed all the AOL radio stuff. It looks like the library now defaults to the AOL stuff (but I could be wrong). For now I can live with it when I consider the price and what it will do for me.
