I am going on a holiday and a friends mp3 cd players is only able to play mp3's with a max of 192 Kb/s , i have some songs we want to take with us at 224 Kb/s,
Is there a way to lower the bitrate or to convert them ?

I think that the only way to do this would be to convert them to WAV, and then re-encode them as MP3, but at the desiered bitrate.

Just use one of the three MP3 output plug-ins, set to 192 kbps. Search the boards for the links to them. No need to convert to WAVs first.

Some of the mp3 plugs are 'low-bitrates-only' capable. The following link has an mp3 encoder/decoder that can encode mp3s directly to different bitrates. It works really well. Give it a try:

Oops, I forgot. It's called 'Electronic Cosmo's MPeg Suite 1.5'

PP's LAME encoder works at any bitrate. PP's ACM encoder and Nullsoft's MP3 encoder both also go up to 320 kbps, as long as you've installed Radium's latest crack of Fraunhofer's ACM codec.

Music Match Jukebox (at least v4) can re-encode mp3s at new bitrates (or vbr)
It is fast as well.(won't work on demo)
It does this without converting to wavs and using HD up space.
