-Fixed elevation/uac issues for standard users on win7 & vista
-Fixed not being able to unassociate extensions in Prefs -> File Types
-Fixed ghost 'Jump to File' dialog appearing when starting Winamp minimized
-Fixed all known installer issues (old files not being deleted when item unchecked causing nscrt.dll errors, etc)
-Changed minimum requirement for D3D video renderer from d3dx9_32.dll to d3dx9_42.dll
-Added 'Category' to ml_impex import/export functions (still need to add Director & Producer)
-Changed "bps" (bits per sample) to "bit" in in_dshow & in_midi file info areas
-All copyright notices updated to 2010 (with the exception of vis_avs)

Revised - 5.571 build 2810 (21st Dec 2009)

Changes since 5.57 build 2792 (17th Dec 2009):
-Fixed: Installation issues on Windows Vista (mscvr90, elevatorps.dll, etc)
-Fixed: Winamp Modern & Bento notifier issues (with Albumart, CD playback, etc)
-Fixed: "Compact Mode" for Tray Control plugin (note, still doesn't work when in Win7 popout tray, so you'll need to set it to 'always show')

-Improved: Further VU meter (beat vis) optimizations (added a one pole IIR filter to make it less jittery)
-Improved: [h264] Some more optimizations
-Misc: Russian & Romanian installer updates (main international builds)

For anyone who doesn't want to download the full installer again,
an official 5.57 or 5.571 to 5.572 update pack (English-only) is available (thanks Koopa, and me, lol).

Video Support:

The new D3D Video Renderer requires DirectX9 or higher
(The installer will upgrade DirectX on Win2k/XP, if required)

The new fullscreen video OSD requires d3dx9_42.dll or higher
(the installer will download/install this, if required).

The new fullscreen video OSD design is not set in stone and is liable to change (eg. width/position/look/features/etc)
in forthcoming releases... though all comments (praises/criticisms) are still welcome :-)

Native MPEG-4 video support is for Pro-registered clients only!

Supported Formats:

in_mp4 supports:
video: h.264 (avc), mp4v2 (simple/advanced), jpeg (slideshow)
audio: mp3, aac (lc/he), 3gp, pcm/u-law, ac3*, alac*

in_mkv supports:
video: h.264 (avc), h.263*, mp4v2
(theora support added in v5.62, mpeg-1 & 2 not supported)
audio: mp3, aac, ac3*, vorbis
(dts/dca decoder available in 5.6x EP*)

in_flv supports:
video: h.263*, h.264 (avc), vp6
audio: mp3, aac, adpcm

in_avi supports:
video: h.264 (avc), divx4, divx5, xvid, vp6, Techsmith (TSCC/Camtasia screen capture/RGB555/RGB565), RLE (16bpp & 8bpp compressed bitmaps), RGB, UYVY, Motion JPEG (M-JPEG)
audio: mp3, aac, ac3*, pcm (wav, a-law, u-law, etc), ms-adpcm, ima adpcm, dsp truespeech

*Requires extra (h.263, ac3 & alac) decoders from the Winamp Essentials pack to be installed!

-Old/unsupported AVI formats (eg. divx3, cinepack, ms-video-1, cram, ms-mpeg4/mp42/mp43, etc)
will be passed on to DirectShow instead.

-Techsmith, UYVY, RGB & RLE video support is via bmp.w5s

-MJPEG slideshow support is via jpeg.w5s

-For non-Pro installations, mpeg-4 (h263, h264, divx, xvid, mp4v, etc) video handling will be the same as in 5.56, i.e. in_avi will pass on all videos with mpeg-4 content to in_dshow, and in_mp4 (and now also in_mkv) will play audio-only.

-To re-enable old 5.56 behaviour, remove in_avi.dll & in_mkv.dll, remove MP4 and M4V from in_mp4 config, and re-add all of AVI, MKV, MP4 & M4V to in_dshow config extension list....

-Re: Native h.264 decoder for in_nsv
Non-Pro users will still be able to use the 3rd-party h.264 decoder for in_nsv.
w5s files/decoders take precedence over dll's, so Pro users can even keep the 3rd-party decoder present
(which won't be used unless you remove h264.w5s... which isn't recommended...)

Q: What is classed as MPEG-4 video?
A: MPEG-4 video codecs include: h.264 (AVC), h.263, mp4v (MPEG-4 v2 Simple & Advanced), Xvid, DivX, 3ivx...
The container they are in is pretty irrelevant, but where Winamp is concerned, it can be any of MP4, AVI, MKV, FLV or NSV.

Other:

The Winamp Application Detect browser plugins for IE & Firefox basically allow winamp.com and other participating sites (shoutcast.com, spinner.com, etc) to detect Winamp presence & version and deliver appropriate content
(eg. to determine whether the installed version supports the new winamp:// protocol).
The plugins do not collect/send any other data whatsoever. Infact, you won't even notice that they're there....
Support for other browsers (Chrome, Opera, Safari, Webkit) is planned for a later release.

Re 5.572: Only install Gracenote alongside dependent components:
CDDBControlWinamp.dll & gracenote.w5s are installed alongside all Gracenote-dependent components...
CDDB, Local Media (required for Info viewer pane), NowPlaying, Playlist Generator & Auto-Tagger.
CDDBUIWinamp.dll is installed alongside CDDB only.
CddbMusicIDWinamp.dll is installed alongside ml_autotag & ml_plg (Playlist Generator).
CddbPlaylist2Winamp.dll is installed alongside ml_plg only.
CddbWOManagerWinamp.dll & Cddbx*.dll (1-5) are only installed if all of CDDB, Sonic & Rip+Burn (ml_disc) are selected.

Undocumented:

5.572 build 2830 includes the ml_local/in_mp3 "write ratings to POPM field in id3v2 tags" experimental feature, as posted by Benski a couple of weeks ago. Because this is still a work-in-progress, we didn't include an entry for it in the changelog.
We still also need to implement support for other plugins (wma, ogg, flac, m4a, etc) first, so all being well there'll be a changelog entry for it in the next major release (eg. 5.58).

To enable, you need to set writeratings=1 in %appdata%\winamp\plugins\gen_ml.ini
Be sure you're using the updated ml_local.dll v2.91 first.

New commandline switches for manipulating ml playlists:

winamp.exe /ADDPLAYLIST "x:\path\to\playlist.m3u" "playlist name" {GUID}
winamp.exe /CREATEPLAYLIST "Playlist Name" {GUID}
winamp.exe /APPENDPLAYLIST {GUID} filename.mp3

where {GUID} is a unique GUID as created by eg. Windows SDK GUID Generator.
For /APPENDPLAYLIST you would need to use the corresponding existing GUID as designated by Winamp
(see %appdata%\winamp\plugins\ml\playlists.xml)

feed:// & pcast:// & winamp:// protocol handler commandline switch:
"x:\path\to\winamp.exe" /HANDLE %1

Accelerator (keyboard shortcuts/hotkeys) changes:

Open Playlist (Ctrl+O) & Save Playlist (Ctrl+S) now work globally;
Added Ctrl+Alt+B for "Add current to bookmarks" (note, old Alt+I still works in Classic skin and also in WA-Modern pledit,
but can never work in Bento because Alt+I is the global shortcut for the View menu);
Changed "Load EQ Preset" from Ctrl+S to Ctrl+Alt+S (Classic EQ only).

Localization improvements:

Winamp can now load extra .lng files from <LANGDIR>\<language-identifier>\*.lng
e.g. c:\program files\winamp\lang\ru-ru\gen_3rdparty.lng

Re: New info page for lang pack developers in About Winamp dialog:
More Info

nsutil:

nsutil.dll in the Winamp root dir is a new shared library for common functions, such as 8-bit to 16-bit conversion,
float-to-pcm conversion, alpha premultiplying, FFT, infinite impulse response, VU meter calc, and more.
Do not delete it, or bad things are likely to happen...

Reporting Bugs:

Please report all bugs in the Bug Reports forum!
Make sure your report is complete, according to the sticky threads in Bug Reports, ie.
Clean install, no 3rd-party plugins, list of plugins, full step-by-step method of reproduction, relevant system specs,
exact error messages, screenshots, which skin (one of Classic, Modern, or Bento only, or all three), links to sample files, etc.
If error reports, screenshots, sample files, etc are smaller than 200kb, then please attach them to your post. Otherwise, please upload to one of stashbox.org, mediafire.com, or sendspace.com and post the url here (no rapidshare or imageshack or similar links please).

For problems with AVI, MKV & MP4/M4V videos, be sure to also tell us what the video & audio codecs are...
Relevant info can be found via the "View File Info" (Alt+3) dialog
(if attaching a screenshot for AVI/MKV, be sure to make Codec ID/Name columns wide enough first).

Note that incomplete/lame bug reports may be totally ignored.

__________________________________________________________________________

Known Issues:

-The installer takes longer than before to unpack

-The installer might appear to freeze on older/slower systems during the "Optimizing..." phase towards the end.
_Please be patient. It hasn't frozen, and will get there eventually...

-Winamp Application Detect is always checkmarked on the Choose Components page of the Installer Options

-Subtitle support isn't implemented yet (.srt for AVI; Sub Station Alpha/Advanced SSA for MKV)

-File info & length/metadata detection for streaming (http) avi isn't implemented yet

-h.263 inside MP4 container still needs a lot of work (support has therefore been disabled until the next release)

-MP4 video http streaming is buggy and not properly implemented yet...

-The options in "Prefs -> File Types -> Shell Options" (as added by the JTFE plugin - gen_jumpex.dll)
_only work on Win7/Vista if Winamp is run in admin mode

-Winamp doesn't appear on mouse hover over Win7 taskbar thumbnail if Winamp is minimized to taskbar
_when a freeform skin (Bento, WA Modern, etc) is in use (works ok for Classic skins)

-The Win7 win+tab image is small (due to a limitation of the Windows API in drawing the image for multiple windows)

-The Win7 alt/win+tab image might show an empty ml or pledit at times, and also doesn't update in real-time

-Aero Shake & Snap support aren't implemented (note, Snap might never be)

-The new Dimension & Codec columns for videos in Local Media views might not populate on upgrades
_(ie. you'll need to use rt-click -> 'read metadata on selected items')
_[EDIT] Hmm, looks like the Codec column never populates... d'oh!

-The Fullscreen OSD might not show at all on systems with the Intel 82945G express chipset, if using Intel drivers v6.13.
_Upgrading the drivers to v6.14 solves the problem.

-The Italian, Swedish, Korean & Chinese language packs have not been updated for this release.
_Some new dialogs/options/etc may not be visible when using any of these packs.
_If anyone is willing to help in updating them, then please say so below, or send a PM to DJ Egg.
_Check out the documentation first to help you determine whether or not you'll be capable...

Language Pack Author Recognition:

There are two ways of showing people that you are the author of the language pack you have created.

The first is via a readme.txt file in the root of the wlz (like in the example wlz) which is shown on the localisation preferences page and can display any sensible message / information you require.

The second introduced as of the 5.57 client is to add a new dialog resource to your winamp.lng with an id of 1378 which will then be shown in Winamp's "About" dialog. The dialog resource will need to be the same size as the existing dialogs used for this and you're able to place anything you'd like. There are also string resource id 65532 & 65533 which can contain a paypal url or homepage link which will be activated when a button on the dialog with the same resource id is clicked by the user. (*)

The aim of this dialog is to allow you as the author to get a more noticeable credit for the work done with creating a language pack as we all know too well that it is not a quick process to do.

(*) Some of official language packs already have this implemented and can be used as a reference

Winamp Version Check for Essentials Pack & Color Editor:

- Minimum Winamp version for installation is Winamp 5.57
- Installer provides a message and will abort, if minimum Winamp version isn't installed on the system
- I'll just increase the minimum version number in future, if a plug-in/component really requires it
- if Winamp couldn't be detected on the system in general, installer provides an info message and will abort

Flake encoder removal

- Winamp already ships a working flac encoder, so it wasn't really essential
- users really should use the tested & approved libflac for creating .flac files

Localization:

- updated example language file v1.14 available
- incomplete translations were disabled due compatibility issues

You can find more infos & the example language file in the Essentials Pack Localization Thread

Thanks guys. The one suggestion I have so far is when playing a video full screen the OSD should be thinner and closer to the bottom of the screen. That's a cosmetic issue that annoys me. Other than that great release glad to see native avi and mkv support!

"It is, in the end, whatever the Hell I want it to be,
And when I'm through with it, it's gonna blow a hole,
This wide, straight through the worlds own idea of itself.
They're throwing bottles at your house.
Come on, lets go break their arms."

Oh, great to see there's a new version.
On one hand, the new version's feature list looks promising! But on the other hand, it looks as Winamp changes what it is, more and more. From the screenshots the new Fullsceen OSD is... not my favorite one I guess...

And I'm almost sure that I want to continue using my very high quality DirectShow filters instead of built-in decoders. I don't hope all subsequent installers continue to remove those extensions from in_dshow - as it does with WMV videos (since Winamp could decode them internally) but which I want to be decoded externally also... But of course I want to give it a try, and there's my problem:

http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/..._pro_de-de.exe

doesn't exist!!! (German-only pro installer) which is the one of my choice since years! Would be great if it could be uploaded in the next days.... I also want to install 5.57

Best regards,
kzuse

and at last a final version, heh

mll: there's just a lack of interest and resources to work on a musepack dll update plus from what i've read, there's an updated version from the musepack side of things anyway.

What about the missing installer file?
For all other languages, the Links on the download page (scroll down and select a language, then click "Pro") do work!

Just the German one doesn't!

@kzuse:
http://download.gdownload.nullsoft.c..._pro_de-de.exe

Also, if you uncheck AVI, MKV & WMV video support on the Choose Components page of the installer,
then those extensions won't be removed from the in_dshow extension list.

unfortunately apple had to be a bunch of asses and break support for iphone/touch in winamp. i hear that support was improved for either this version or last.

hopefully the devs (official and otherwise) haven't given up the ghost for it.

5.57 video at last

Thank you for this video new OSD which now let us enjoying normal video acceleration on Winamp.

I'm writting here I'm on Windows Vista 32bits and this release can't open because of an authorization level, it dumps just after completing the Winamp pre-opening window, and prevent an opening of Winamp 5.57. So I've returned on the 5.57 beta which totally satisfy me.

Thank You All for the VIDEO correct and Vista's support annoying 'bug' at all the Winamp 5.56 opening.

Merry Christmas.

my installer crashes.

i answer the questions, click finish, and IMMEDIATELY the winamp "saving settings" dialog is superceded by a windows vista (sp2, 32bit) dialog that says "winamp has stopped working" and then all i can do is click "close program"

any help??? ideas??? i had 5.56 running np. i did have the shortcuts for it set to run as admin. tried disabling that, no difference.

well actually, i tried something else:

i uninstalled winamp totally from my vista laptop, rebooted, and did a clean install. it now works, but it doesn't remember anything of my previous settings. this is why winamp MUST support reading/writing POPM ratings info in tags.

there's lots of discussion on this on the official winamp blog too, in the comments section regarding this new version.

(btw, i used the windows control panel to uninstall winamp. thats as "clean" as my uninstall got)

devs, whats the deal?

Hey I guess this is the 'known' problem of the hover over windows 7 thing, but I don't even have aero enabled, yet it cannot even give the current songs name when hovered over (important because i cant see the full song when it's minimized) it only gives the name of the first song I listened to when it started.. what?

Version 5.56 shows the current name just fine.

Also, I have the program DFX, which no longer 'snaps' to the bottom of winamp. Minor issue, but strange.

Can someone try this potential fix
http://stashbox.org/739209/elevatorps.dll

Overwrite the existing file in c:\program files\winamp (while Winamp is closed)

and see if it resolves the issue. Would be most appreciated, thanks!

Winamp 5.57 Revised, Build 2792 (17th Dec 2009)

Details
Update Pack

The full installer builds might take a while to propagate on all relay servers,
though the separate Update Pack link is definitely working :-)

Note, anyone who's installed Benski's modified in_mp3 & ml_local POPM updates
will need to reapply/reinstall them again afterwards
(only if downloading the full 2792 installer, but not if just applying the separate update patch).

We've seen a few reports of this. I believe it's from some old plugin. Can you attach plugin list?

No problem, it's attached to this post. Don't know if this is important, but the error occured again by generating the list.

Do you have any media library plugins in your plugins folder (ml_*.dll). Your plugin list shows none, even though you have gen_ml, which is why I'm checking.

Also, can you tell me the timestamp on nde.dll (winamp folder) and in_cdda.dll (plugins folder). thanks!

@Chrissyx

Hmm... interesting

No Media Library plugins.

What's the datestamp on your version of %ProgramFiles%\Winamp\NDE.DLL ?

I've a feeling you've still got the version from 5.56

nde.dll is currently only installed alongside Local Media (ml_local.dll) & History (ml_history.dll)

The only 4 plugins which call that function are:
ml_local.dll, ml_history.dll, gen_orgler.dll & in_cdda.dll

Of those 4, the only one you've got is in_cdda.dll
(which is the correct version from 5.57)

You could confirm the error message goes away if you temporaily move in_cdda.dll out of the Winamp\Plugins folder.

I'm going to fix the installer to also install nde.dll alongside in_cdda & gen_orgler.

In the meantime, you could also confirm that the error message goes away after replacing nde.dll with the version from 5.57 in my attachment (also make sure in_cdda.dll is back in the Winamp\Plugins folder first).

[Edit]

Wayhey. Benski also posted, just before me, lol :-)

[Edit2]

Hmm, nde.dll is already installed alongside in_cdda.dll
So I'm really not sure what's going on there...

The plot thickens....

Do you also get the error when using the default English localization (as opposed to the German lang pack)?

Maybe Benski's on to something there...
Maybe OneForNunz isn't picking up (an older version of) gen_orgler or some ml plugins,
which would also explain why the error occurs when running the Nunz plugin to get the plugin list.

  • No ml_*.dll files in Plugins folder
  • Timestamp of nde.dll and in_cdda.dll are the same, created and last changed 18th Dec 2009
  • Moving out in_cdda.dll from directory did not help
  • Using the nde.dll from DJ Egg did not help
  • Changing language did not help
BUT: Basing on your nde.dll usage feedback I discovered and moved out the gen_orgler.dll from Plugins folder and the error was gone! I guess this file is causing the error and was not listed by One For Nunz. If it helps, my gen_orgler.dll timestamp says created on 1st July 2009 and changed 17th Dec 2009.

Yeah, I should've picked up on that sooner.

Your auth.w5s is only 18kb (Winamp\System folder)
whereas the one included with 5.57 is 170kb
(auth.w5s is installed alongside gen_orgler.dll).

I guess we should've added gen_orgler.dll and auth.w5s to the list of files to delete before installing anything
(we do that for all ml plugins and a few other files, to make sure old versions aren't around if you uncheck the installer option).

Thanks for letting us know :-)

I'm not sure. Is it classed as a major showstopper?

Hmm, I don't think we show the build number anywhere for final builds.
For beta builds, it's in the About Winamp dialog, at the bottom of the Winamp tab.
Though it should say 17th Dec 2009 there, instead of 16th Dec.

Other than that, the build number is in the Version (WinXP) / Details (Win7) tab of File Properties for winamp.exe
and the installer, and should also show in the mouseover tooltip (File version: 5.5.7.2792).

Still doing this even though it was fixed in the revised version

edit: nevermind, I downloaded the windows 7 integration plugin which looks nicer and makes it work

if there's an issue loading the plugin then OneForNunz pretty much won't show it. maybe time to add a directory listing of the plugin's folder to it for cases like this.

Quick

And yet again Winamp gets even faster.
Faster load up time and instant file loading when browsing through various views in Media Library.
Thanks again for the hard work and your great Xmas present for us!
