Winamp Crash on Entering Preferences

Every time i go to enter preferences in Winamp, i am met with an hour glass and a message from windows saying "winamp has stopped working". I would please like help with this issue ASAP, as it is very annoying and has blocked me from editing anything in the program

Re: Re: Winamp Crash on Entering Preferences

I Also have the same problem. I have a clean installation of winamp pro on windows 7 64bit. Everytime I try and load the latest version, it asks me about my preferences and crashes before I can click anything. I cannot even load the program. I restart, reinstall winamp, cleanly and it still doesn't work.

HijackThis log & List of Plugins required
(use the standalone version of the nunz plugin to generate the plugin list).

Put both logs into a zip file and attach the zip here.

Using Windows 7 64bit also.

Perhaps this means anything?

Oldskoolradio: try removing (or rename from .dll to .off) the gen_msn7.dll in your plug-in's folder (as that's reportedly crashing).

if that still causes an issue then please post a report as detailed in DJ Egg's post above.

if things are ok after disabling the plug-in then you may need to see if there is an updated version from the author as it looks like it's an old plug-in that is likely to require some minor changes to improve compatability with newer Winamp clients.

from a quick look, that plug-in has appeared in a few people's error reports when installing the 5.57x series so something isn't right with the plug-in. may have to see if i can reproduce the issue myself to see if it is a client or plug-in issue.

i've had a look and i'm able to reproduce the crashing issue though if the dll isn't present during the setup phase but added back in before setup properly starts Winamp then all is ok so gen_msn7 must be doing something weird when it's loading but i'm not able to figure it out currently as the crash was manifesting in unrelated areas of the Winamp code from what i could see.

is just a shame there's no contact details for the author that i could find as i think we may be black-listing the plug-in for future installs to resolve the issue *shrugs*

For what it's worth, try the plugin available at www.myplugins*******msn-messenger-plugin.php (it's "gen_msn", not "gen_msn7"). It works perfectly for me

this is now in place for all future client installs.

and like Daniel15 has suggested, there are alternatives to gen_msn7 which work well with the current client still.
