Yesterday, i came upon a solution for my MMsystem007 problem. Evidently, my Call waiting modem was mapped on com 5, and for some reason, it affected my soundcard's configuration at some startups. After mapping it to a free COM port, the MMsystem007 problem dissapeared. . To check if you have this same problem, go into your system's BIOS at startup and check your IRQ settings to see which com ports are reserved. If COM 5 is reserved, i recommend changing it to com 3. AS i posted before, changing WInamp's plugin to direct sound is not a good solution since it uses more of your processing power instead of your soundcard's full capabilities.

Ding Ding Ding! This was exactly what happened to me also. I installed a new CD-RW and for some reason my BIOS reassigned my modem to com 5. Thanks!
