When I install Winamp, it is automatically associating wav and mp3 files with itself.... I use other programs, and would like to leave the default Windows associations as they are (i.e. .wav and .mp3 are played by the defualt windows media player). I remember earlier versions of winamp allowed you to choose which file types to associate extensions with, if any, but the newest version 2.62, doesn't offer that option. Help! As it is, I've had to uninstall winamp and mediaplayer 6.4 and reinstall mediaplayer to get the associations back to default.

winamp still allows you to choose which extensions you want it to associate with. first, it asks you when you install. then, once installed, you can go to preferences -- setup -- file types and change them. winamp doesn't steal anything. it does what you tell it to.

Winamp gives you the option at install to choose the file types you want it to register, its your own fault that you are ignorant.
