I've checked the "tech greatest hits" forum and read all the faq's, but still have a question. Everything I play on Winamp sounds great EXCEPT cd's that I've burned. Mind you, these cd's sound good/great on a home/car stereo or in CD Player or in RealJukebox, just not in Winamp. IN Winamp I get "skipping", "popping" and other unwanted noise. DO I have some stupid plug-in configuration problem? TIA.

mmmm . . . possibly . . . but I must admit that it sounds very strange !

You can try a couple of things:
1. Goto Prefs -> Input Plug-ins.
Hi-lite CD Plug-in [IN_CDDA.DLL]
Click configure.
If "Sample input from soundcard" is or isn't checkmarked, do the reverse !
Try again.

2. Download the CDReader Plug-in from the Winamp Input Plug-ins site and use this instead.
You can also get it here [latest version v1.95]: http://www.url*****~copah/

If neither of these suggestions work, post below & we'll take it from there.

ps. Thanx for reading all the FAQ's first !

Hi DJEgg,

You are obviously brilliant! I checked the CD Plug-in and "sample input from soundcard" was checked. I un-checked it and problem went "bye-bye" (who knows). Thanks much. I've only asked two questions in this forum, and both times got good advice. You people know your stuff! Great group.

O.K. now, (off/on topic) why do I have two (2) "Winamp Agent"s listed in my start-up config and how do I get rid of one of them? (Boy, do I cause problems). : O

Do you mean in the "StartUp" Folder @ Start Button -> Programs ?
Or are you talking about the program manager or somewhere else ?
Please specify exactly !

To totally disable the Winamp Agent:
Goto "Prefs -> Agent" & uncheck all 3 options.

This isn't recommended if programs like Real Player etc keep on stealing back File Associations.

However, there's also ways of preventing that from within the Real config options !

If needs be, post a reply here to the above questions & we'll take it from there.

DJEgg,

Sorry 'bout the confusion. What I was doing was checking to see what programs were running in my Startup configuration. I went Start>Run and typed in "msconfig". There were two identical files "C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINAMP\WINAMPa.exe". One was checked and one was unchecked. Just looked kind of strange to me. What say you? TIA

Are you sure you didn't uncheck the unchecked one? I don't think any programs (other than msconfig itself when you tell it to) uncheck items in that list. If you check it again, I suspect that it will disappear after you click "OK", and you'll be left with just one entry. However, it's not uncommon for programs to put themselves in start-up twice (e.g. McAfee VirusScan and a few Norton utilities), so it might still be there. It's probably not worth worrying about, though.

Hello Winsane,

Incredible! You guys must have Phd.'s or something ('course, everything about 'puters is impressive to me). I checked the un-checked file; re-booted; and now there's only one file. Thanks. By the way, I had not un-checked the second file originally. And there are other files that are un-checked (but I think I know why). Thanks again.

Nah, just an AA so far. Glad it worked.
Do you share your computer with someone else? Chances are, they messed around with your msconfig settings.
Anyway, I just tried enabling Winamp Agent myself to see what it adds to Windows's start-up, and I verified that it only adds one entry (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run).
