Im trying to burn a cd with some songs that I have in my windows media player but when I try to find the files to drag into adaptecs easy cd creator, it doesnt recognize the wma. files. Do I have to turn the wma. files into wav.s or mp3s?

Thanks

In theory, it'd have to be a wav, but since MS is a bunch of evil bastards, you cant convert wma.

kidtermite and John M -

WMA is Micro$hit's contribution to the "secure" music format idiocy. In accordance with their licensing agreement with Micro$hit, the WMA input plugin included in the current version of Winamp cannot convert WMA to a "normal" format such as MP3, WAV, etc.

Here are some alternatives:

(1) You can use Cool Decode v2.0, which is available here:

http://quinqsoft.***********/

(2) You can use Shuffler Music Converter, which is available here:

http://www.illustrate.org/music-converter.htm

(3) In Winamp version 2.60 and earlier, the WMA input plugin in_wm.dll was not crippled. So you can download and install Winamp 2.60 or earlier and save that version's in_wm.dll file to a safe location. Then download and install the current Winamp version and replace its in_wm.dll file with the file from the older version. In both installations, the in_wm.dll file will be found in the Plugins folder, usually C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins.

Older versions of Winamp such as 2.60 are available here:

The URL for that file has changed to ftp://severer.www4.50megs.com:666evi...iles/in_wm.zip
Hmm, I seem to only be able to download that file when clicking on the link from The Second Floor's site, and not when clicking on it from the forums. Dunno whether that's just coincidence and the server's connection is intermittent, or if the sites are somehow set up that way intentionally. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to post a link to The Second Floor's site. But I might not notice if someone else posted a disguised link to it...

Also, read these threads for some more information:
