Ah crazy brands. For a looooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggg time I've been wondering "What the hell have these gotta do with each other?" I mean, can you see any relationship? I can't:

Winamp: An excellent music player computer software for personal computers equipped with Windows 95/98/98SE/ME/(2000?)/(NT?) operating systems which decodes all sorts of computer data into floods of sweet audio charm.

Llama: Merriam-Webster Dictionary quotes:
Quote:
llama \la-me\ n [Sp] : any of a genus of wild or domesticated So. American mammals related to the camels but smaller and without a hump.
Wasabi: green Japanese mustard made out of some kind of roots; used for flavoring sushi which one taste of the stuff will blow your head off - literally.

Lightning:
Merriam-Webster Dictionary quotes:
Quote:
1lightning \lt-nin\ n : the flashing of light produced by a discharge of atmospheric electricity; also : the discharge itself.

Well, I do admit the name Wasabi is much more imaginative than Sonique 2's "Mantis"...

Winamp == A windows port of the AMP decoder. Hense, the Win in WINamp.

Wasabi == The code name for Winamp3's frontend. The name for Winamp's core is Tempura. 4 out of 5 nullsoft employees agree, they love sushi.

Llama == The llama comes from an insane comedian/bum named Wessly Willis who used to use the phrase XXXXX really whips the llamas ass. One of Winamp's first loyal fans used the catch phrase to describe Winamp, it obviously stuck.

Lightning Icon == The diamond comes from the old Mac OS days when icons used to have a graphic inside a diamond. Actually, a lot of Winamp comes from MacOS, the titlebar, the scrollbars in the Playlist Editor... Look familiar? MAC LOVE. The lightning bolt I have no idea where that came from, i'll have to ask tom.

Hope that helped...

Wasabi? Tempura (delicious fried shrimps with crispy bread-crumb coating)? What's next, Rameng (I think that's how it's spelt)?

There certainly is a Japanese influence going on in Nullsoft...
