Yup they put it on http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client/ before posting it on the homepage.
If this has already been posted delete it.
So am I the first non-nullsoft employeeee to have it? I doubt it, but cool .
The media server thingy isn't there and you can't see it in res hacker. no media server

Winamp 2.74:
* fixed vis shutdown related bugs (message pump is run while waiting for safety)
* cleaned up some startup code
* fixed layer 2 i/s bug in in_mp3
* fixed HTTP/1.1 + Apache CGI issues in in_mp3.
* improved HTTP auth support in in_mp3 .. it's the shits!
* updated to new in_midi version (go PP)
* removed CDDB support (temporarily, hopefully)
* new AVS with Overlay support
* made uninstall use NSIS's uninstaller

Wow, this new overlay mode is cool (try "Set desktop to color" and/or color black (0/0/0))

Gracenote(current owner of CDDB) is shutting down CDDB and wants software to use their crappy dll to access CDDB2. I hope Winamp will switch to FreeDB.

http://slashdot.org/articles/01/03/10/006217.shtml

Their license agreement (not allowed to store whatever data you want in the ID3 tags, must use Gracenote exclusively, must use their clunky dll which would add another MB file size to Winamp etc etc. Their contract is simply full of crap).

FreeDB doesn't have as many disc info as CDDB now, but slowly and surely it will. My only hope is FreeDB doesn't do a repeat performance of what CDDB/Gracenote is doing now.

I just press play on the front of my CD-Rom drive... But that's just me. It is nice when you want to know the names and etc of the songs you are playing from an audio cd in your cd-rom drive.

aaahhh, the heck with CDDB. As if I need to remind you again, Winamp is a MP3 player. Just thought I would throw that into the mix. heh and don't tell me about the cdreader plugin. I've tried it repeatedly, and it skips like hell, and the author was absolutely no help. (that's after providing him with all the specs, and him having no idea why it doesn't work...that's not much support..imo)

still using wa 2.65 and liking it. I still use it cause I don't want the freakin' id3v2 tags... what's up with the overlay mode? is it really worth to download 2.74 for that? I don't know, just clearly explain to me what it's about...

Thanx a bunch

Yes, I sent several messages to the author, and he said my cd-rom was just fine, and also recommended several buffer changes. Nothing I tried worked, it still dragged and skipped when in use playing CDs. He finally said he had no explanation why it wouldn't work correctly. He has made several upgrades since I tried it last, so maybe it might work better now. I guess I'm satisfied with Winamp's Cd Reader, and will wait until Winamp has its own digital plugin. Thanks for asking.

Please help me! My friends are starting to make fun of me. :-(

Try this:

Set the overlay color to pure white. Enable the 'Set desktop color' option (it will change back later) and then enable the overlay mode, that works for me.
