All of a sudden, the other day my winamp 2.76 stoped playing. I couldn't find a solution to this problem already posted. I can load and alter lists, but as soon as I try to play a song in any format the program freezes and ctrl-alt-del is the only way out. Only the program freezes, my comp is fine. There is no apparent error message. I have been using winamp trouble-free for years now and I am thoroughly puzzled by this. I tried to reinstall the program and even reinstalled my audio driver to be on the safe side...also, I don't know if this is related, but occasionally my easy cd creator has been unable to make cd's, it just spits the disk out before it even writes and gives me some strange error code which I could not find any info on. The burning prob is not because of the disks I am using. If anyone has any info, it would be much appreciated.

Can you post your system specifics - OS, RAM, CPU speed, etc. Also a list of any plugins or programs that you have running at the same time.

well, i have a 600Mhz AMD-K6sumthin, 128 mb of ram, win98 se, i don't really have much running: easy cdcreator is in the system tray if that matters along with real player(i tried winamp with real player completely closed out to), and some scheduler or something like that which came with the win98se. Occasionally i run audiogalaxy but i tried it with audiogalaxy off too. Its weird ive never had probs before.???

Try deactivating EasyCD - it may solve your problem.
It sucks anyway. In fact, uninstall it and get Nero - Burning ROM

What did you do to your system that could possibly have caused this to happen?
Is it since you upgraded to 2.76? Is it since you installed some other software? Have you upgraded any hardware drivers recently? Have you installed any Windows/Internet Explorer update files? Have you uninstalled any programs recently? Have you tried closing all of the multimedia programs in the systray? (EasyCD Creator, AudioGalaxy, RealPlayer) Have you ever installed any 3rd party plugins for Winamp? (Particularly of the General Purpose or Input variety) If so, it's possible that one or more of these are no longer compatible with the latest version of Winamp. Do you have any (potentially dodgy) DSP/FX plugins activated? Troubleshooter Guide: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....827#post275827 Have you made sure that the correct Output plugin is selected? Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Output: select either "WaveOut" (default) -OR- "DirectSound" If all else fails, there's always the uninstall -> reinstall option: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=50818 Also, a whole font of knowledge is accessible via this thread: TSGH -> Useful Links |

First off sorry for my impatience, it is my first time on a board like this and i guess i thought my question was "lost in the mix" when I saw newer questions getting numerous replies... I don't know what I could have done wrong. This prob has only surfaced since upgrading to 2.76 and no I really haven't installed other software around the time of the prob. I haven't upgraded any hardware drivers but i did try to reinstall my audio driver after the prob appeared. I have downloaded some IE patches via windows update however. I have not uninstalled any programs except winamp after the problem surfaced and I have tried closing all multimedia programs in the systray. I have no extra plugins and my output is set to wave out. All this is why I am confused?!? Do you think I should get rid of adaptec DJEgg? Is that it?

Urgghh, nightmare scenario . . .
![]() I feel for you . . . that sounds pretty nasty. Maybe it's time to run Scandisk & VirusScan? Maybe defrag too? How far into the uninstall did it get? Is the Winamp dir & all its files still in tact? Are you sure Winamp was fully closed first? (including systray icon/Agent, if it was enabled) Is Winamp the only program you get freezing problems with? A fair few people have reported problems with Adeptec/EasyCD. I don't have it myself; correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it always active in the background? Maybe it's using resources that Winamp is trying to access at the same time? First, maybe try disabling it in msconfig, then reboot. Also, what version of DirectX do you have? Start -> Run -> dxdiag Any problems listed in any of the tabs? (DirectX Diagnostic Tool) Do all the various tests work ok? (Audio/Music/Video tabs, etc.) Honestly, I really wish I could help you further! I don't suppose you could possibly e-mail your pc to me for a full inspection? (j/k)Seriously though, let us know how ya get on. |
