why wait, when a nice new sturdy update of 5.5 is out?

6'll be beta for a while longer. Might as well update 5.5 if your not already using the beta of 6.

IE6 final/gold will be released on August 15th according to most Windows sites(Activewin, WinOSCentral, Neowin) but it will not install on Win95. It will only install on Win98/98SE/ME and NT4/Win2k(XP when it is released on October 25th already comes with IE6). So Win95 users should update to IE5.5SP2 since they won't be able to install IE6 on their OS.

IE 5 and 5.5 both suck! Currently, I'm running IE 6 Build 2462 and it really kicks ass! And I'm in the process of updating it to build 2530! However, IE 6 still can't match Netscape and Mozilla's performance, stability, reliability, and functionality!

Netscape 4 was crap; I agree. Netscape 6 isn't though. Of course, Netscape 6 is always a good bit behind Mozilla, so I use the nightly builds of Mozilla. So far, for me, the nightly builds are the most stable browsers I've used.

/me can't wait till mozilla comes out of beta

Right now it's the closest competition for IE, but still uses more ram and is a little buggy.
I don't like IE 6.0 although it's stable, the media shit gets in my way. I want it to die, die die die... um.

[edit] The forums seem strangely fast tonight or is it just me? Something must be wrong then. [/edit]

Mozilla doesn't come out of beta. When the Mozilla team is satisfied that they've created a better version, it becomes the new Netscape 6. (ie: 6.1, 6.2, etc.) The most recent build (milestone) is extremely stable.

I could be wrong, but from what I understand, they'll never call themselves anything above beta. Mozilla 9.2 is already more stable than any Netscape 4.x build, and they expect 9.3 to be even more stable.

I thought Mozilla 1.0 could be Mozilla 6 or Mozilla 5.01!

Weird! Why would Mozilla revert from 5.0 back to 0.9.3?

Back to the original topic...

I hadn't upgraded to SP2 yet (and won't now)... If you were about to, and use Quicktime, you might wanna check this CNET news article. (It's simple and I suppose I could explain it, but that wouldn't be fun, now would it?)

The worst piece of shit installed on my PC is RealPlayer.

As for Windows Media... the player might be lousy, but you have to concede that from a technological point of view, Windows Media format is more robust than RealMedia, for both video and audio. It delivers better quality over low bandwidth. It also recovers gracefully when bandwidth is unstable.

Apple has fixed the QuickTime problem in IE 5.5 SP2 by releasing a QuickTime ActiveX control:
