God, please say it isn't true!

Oh god! Oh god! Oh god!

First it was Gif's, then two days ago, Gif's and PNG's!

Oh please for the love of god don't tell me I've been pronouncing Nullsoft incorrectly for the past 5+ years!!!

--------

Here's the story. Last night I went to winamp.com to download Winamp for my dad, on his computer. When the page loaded, the first thing my dad says is, "Nullsoft?". But he pronounced it (Nole)soft, which is how "Null" alone is actually pronounced, which I've always known, but it never really connected in any to the word in my brain. Well, I immediately said, "It's pronounced (Nool)soft." as it is the way I have always pronounced it, and at the time I really didn't think anything of it.

So today, (15-20 minutes ago), I was watching "Win Ben Steins Money" on Comedy Central, and one of the answers to one of the questions in the finals contained the word Null. Now, the first time it was answered correctly, by the contestant, I didn't think anything of it. But for some reason, when Ben answered the same question correctly, my memory of my dad saying "(Nole)soft" jumped into my mind, and along with it came the realization that, OMG, have I been saying Nullsoft wrong all this time

So which is it?????????!!!!!!!!!

Oh god! /me huddles in the corner

Please be (Nool)soft... Please be (Nool)soft... Please be (Nool)soft... Please be (Nool)soft... Please be (Nool)soft... Please be (Nool)soft... Please be (Nool)soft... Please be (Nool)soft...

Think of the saying...null (nool) and void.
Not nole and void, I guess

sorry but i've always pronounced it (Nole)soft. I've seen the word "null" so in my head it looks like "null + soft = nullsoft"

I've always pronounced it with a distinct "uh" (soft u) sound. e.g. the "u" in "ugly".

I can understand your shock and horror SNYder, for years I went around pronouncing 'epitome' = eppy + tome(as in large book).
I carry the pain to this day.

I can't remember all the names but specifically hunting for Lascivious, and DEVOUR (compilation with Jax) and any in the Impulse series which had 6 total. Auriferous, Gilt, Impulse, Nadir, and 2 others I can't remember but you dig.

In the original Judeao-Christian texts (such as the Dead Sea scrolls, early versions of the Talmud), God is denoted by a blank space, implying that as he himself is unknowable, so is his name. Therefore, no matter how you say it, you are pronouncing it wrong

YEEEARS ago when I first found out about gif's I pronounced it correctly without anyone telling me. But a year later I was told it was supposed to be pronounced with a HARD G. So ever since, that has been the way I said it, until a few days ago when I was expanding my MNG knowledge. I happened to stumble on a page teaching the basics of the PNG format. Near the bottom, It started talking about pronouncing it correctly and how the majority of the gif users pronounce GIF wrong, and they didn't want to have that problem. Well to my amazement it said it should NOT be pronounced with a hard G. That shocked me enough, but then to add to my shocked...(umm)...ness, they go on to say PNG is pronounced Ping! For the half year I had been using PNG's I had been calling them P-N-G's! It's like someone suddenly telling you that you had to start calling your Mom, Dad. =\

Ok.... I’m done yapping

I pronounce gif's like its spelled (not Jifs), and I don't pronounce pings, I call them PNG's. If I'm wrong I'm wrong. I like my way you should pronounce it the way you want
There is an entire county that says "wooder" instead of "water" which is retarded cause we have "wawa's" all over the place and they can pronounce "wawa" but they can't say water...
I think the "wooder" thing applies not only to Philadelphia (and surrounding suburbs) but I think its leaked into Jersey as well.
Ok I'm done yapping (if you ever hear anyone say "wooder" though, please correct them, there is no "o" or "d" in water)

I still refer to GUIs as G-U-Is. GUI is supposed to be pronounced "gooey," but that just conjures up too many images. Plus, it sounds stupid.

I generally just spell out acronyms. S-Q-L, G-U-I, G-I-F, P-N-G, E-T-C-. oh, wait
