i just downloaded Winamp 3 for Linux, but i dont know hot to install it.
I am new to Linux, and I dont like the mp3 player that comes with linux.

Winamp for linux alpha build

Disclaimer:
This is an alpha test only. Play with it as much as you like, but don't blame
us if it melts your computer into a pile of scrap metal or steals your
girlfriend.

Requirements:
You need the following:
A 24 or 32 bit display X Server
with the SHAPE and MIT-SHM (just for AVS) extensions
(these should be on most modern X servers)

OSS Sound Card capable of 16bit 44.1hz Stereo Output

libpng
gtk+
freetype

And you should have at least a 500 Mhz processor with 64 Megs of RAM. I
haven't tested the lower limit, but it's certainly much nicer on a
better system. Also make sure you have MMX extensions on your chip
(otherwise it's very slow)

Installation:
Download Winamp-0.a1-1.i386.rpm from http://www.winamp.com/.

(As root) run "rpm -Uvh Winamp-0.a1-1.i386.rpm". This installs Winamp in
/usr/local/bin, and puts it's data in /usr/local/Winamp. As long as
/usr/local/bin is in your path, Winamp should come up when you run it.

Fixable Problems:
The font sucks:
Since we can't distribute a font we don't have a license to, I've
included a font that comes with X. If you replace
/usr/local/Winamp/Arial with a TTF for Arial that you have a license
to use (see http://home.hiwaay.net/~craigg/linux/ for more
information), it will look much better.

Loading the Skin takes forever:
/usr/local/Winamp/Skins/Default.wal is a zipfile which has the Default
skin in it. If you make a Skins/Default directory and unzip the
.wal file there the skin will load much faster.

Known Bugs:
Cursors don't appear in the resize areas on windows.
Minibrowser doesn't do anything
Scale doesn't work.
Moving forward in the playlist doesn't always work.
Winamp always crashes on exit.
DB isn't persistant between runs.
Requires 24/32 bit display
Windows don't dock with each other
Directory choosing widget hasn't been implemented.
There exist random crashes when manipulating widgets.
(mostly frame manipulation)

I suggest trying XMMS: X MultiMedia System (http://www.xmms.org/). It's a Winamp clone for Linux and it's much more stable than WA3 for linux (simply because it's not an alpha version). XMMS feels, and behaves a lot like Winamp 2.x, so I think you'll like it. I use it myself.

BTW, what player "came" with your linux copy (the one you don't like)?

Regarding your trouble with installation, I can help you if you answer this question:
What distribution (distro) and version of linux do you have? RedHat? Mandrake? Caldera OpenLinux? Slackware?

First I´d like to thank you for your help, because I am a real Linux-newbie(I always used Windows, and Windows realy sucks ).
Second I have Linux Suse 7.3, and I dont know the name of the mp3 player that is installed on my computer.

I have 128 mb RAM and 1 GHgz procesor, and that´s fast enough for Linux.

i finally found the rpm format on winamp.com n downloaded it.
i use redhat 7.1 . during installation, i get an error message saying that thereis an unresolved dependency n that wa3 reqd libz.so.1 to run . what do i need to install to resolve that dependency?
any help would be welcome
