Ctrl+P
click on "file types" in menu (left side of window)
click "select all"
for CDs click "associate with audio CDs" if the checkmark is not there
now doubleclick any supported music file or insert a CD and Winamp will play it.

btw, you don't have to click "select all" in Prefs -> Filetypes, just the extensions in the list that you want winamp to be associated with.

If you checkmark "enqueue as default action", files you open in Explorer will be added to the current playlist instead of clearing it.

You can also use the "Add -> Dir" button at the bottom of the playlist to add full folders to your playlist, or the "Add -> File" button to add selective files (browse to folder and use Ctrl+left click to select more than one file).
You can also drag+drop files from Explorer straight into the playlist.

When finished, use the "List -> Save" button to save the playlist to an M3U or PLS playlist for future use. You can then repeat these steps to create more playlists, or just save the one playlist for backup purposes (in case you accidentally clear the playlist window)

If you are actually looking for music to add to your playlist, check these:

Yes, if you're just loading CD Tracks into the playlist, then the CD itself needs to be in the drive for the songs to play.

If you want to play the songs off your hard drive, then you'll need to rip the CD tracks to MP3.

Yeah, all those links can be found in the CD to MP3 thread in TSGH

EAC is probably the best technically, but CDex is probably easier to use.
I've got 'em both, hehe

btw, "Ripper" is the word

Rip is the word, is the word, is the time, is the motion

You keep saying Ctrl +P but that only brings up the PREFERENCES menu, and there is no "File Types" listed there. Where should we be when we click Ctrl +P ?

I am trying to add Leo's Lyrics Playlist, as instructed there, but need step-by-step directions.

Thank you.

Hi

Just a guess here, but are you using Winamp3 by any chance?
Note, this is the Winamp 2x forum.

In WA3, the equivalent is:
Prefs (Ctrl+P -or- click "Prefs" icon in Thinger) -> Media

This is where you select filetypes/extensions to be associated with WA3
(ie. WA3 will become the default player of these when you double click them in Windows folders etc etc)

However, if all you want to do is open a playlist in WA3 . . .

(default skin instructions)

Playlist -> Playlist button -> Load playlist
or if you don't want to lose your current playlist:
Playlist -> Playlist button -> Create New playlist, then:
Playlist -> Playlist button -> Load playlist
Browse to where your playlist file is and click open.

In WA2, the equivalent method is:
Playlist window -> List button -> Load
(equivalent to clicking List button twice)
