Starts up each time I log on

Winamp starts up each time I log on to my name on our family's computer, and it also displays on the playlist (as if they were songs) the word PROGRAM about 6 times. How do I disable this autostartup feature?

Sounds like you're a victim of the weird "association with extensionless files" bug. This is supposed to have been fixed as from v2.77+
Are you running an older version of Winamp?
If so upgrade to v2.78c

Can you confirm whether or not this is related to "extensionless files"?
In Explorer, locate any files without extensions, eg.
ShellIconCache | PROTOCOL | ttfCache | NETWORKS | etc (all in Windows dir)
Do they have a Winamp icon, and is the file description "Winamp Media File"

Further info:

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=60901 (extensionless files 2)

Your problem is exactly the same as the one outlined in case #2

I'm pretty sure it's got something to do with this, but there are other possibilities, which we'll go into later if needs be.

I viewed the second link you put up, and it sounded helpful, but when I tried the method that he tried, it didn't work. It limited the amount of "PROGRAM"s to 4 from about 6 or 7, but there are still the four. I also checked in explorer under my windows file, and found that indeed those extentionless files were associated with Winamp. So it sounds like I may have to go all the way to the editing my system registry step, but I'm a little afraid to go messing around in there because I'm not quite an expert on that stuff. If you could give me detailed instructions though, I'd greatly appreciate it and would be willing to give it a shot. I'd really like to get this problem fixed, it's quite a pain.

Thanks again Your Eggness,

I got bold (well actually I just got impatient) and I followed the steps for editing the RegEdit from the second link you gave me, and it worked. I just deleted the two entries in the period [.] folder because they both said winamp, and I assumed that just unassociated all extentionless files with winamp. I'm glad it's finally done, and hopefully now I haven't messed anything up. Anyways, thanks for the help.

Yay!

Glad to hear it worked.
Yes, you did the right thing there with the registry.
Sorry I wasn't around to answer you, but I just took a food break.
I am only human after all

This is strange though, because this bug was definitely supposed to be fixed as from v2.77

From whatsnew.txt

Winamp 2.77:
* made winamp.exe and winampa.exe both much less likely to fudge HKCR/.

Though I suppose "much less likely" doesn't mean it won't happen at all!
Sad as it may seem, but you're only the 2nd person to report this bug in the past 6 months.
