well... my problem w/ wma files is that i do not know how to convert it into wav files using the preferences. it's been "unfukked" but i still don't know what plug-in to use, or what plug-in i should download to use. this file has been driving me nuts. even if i could convert it into an mp3 so i can convert it from mp3 to wav would be great... n e advice??

If you have the old IN_WM.DLL, all you have to do is...

Open WinAMP, hold Ctrl and press P, go to the Output Plug-ins section, select Nullsoft Disk Writer, click Configure, choose an output directory and set the format to 44kHz, 16-bit, stereo, click OK, OK, Close, and load and play the file. There should be no sound when it plays. Then switch the output plug-in back to WaveOut or directsound. You'll find the WAV in the folder you specified as Output Directory.

that doesn't work for the wma file... it just continues to play music. just to make sure i did the nullsoft disk writer on an mp3 file. that worked.

so i need something that will convert wma to either wav or mp3...

As explained in the first link, you need to replace the current WMA Decoder (in_wm.dll) with an older version from pre v2.60

Close Winamp, backup the current in_wm.dll
Then unzip the old in_wm.dll (to the Winamp\Plugins dir)

Now try using DiskWriter Output
