Winamp2x in your browser

Here it is, Winamp in your browser. It's a recreation of Winamp with skin support and it even plays mp3s. Download it and check it out. If you want to change the skin erase all the files in the "skindir" folder and extract a .wsz file to the folder. Email me if you find a bug (Click the Winamp symbol when you use the program to find it).

Aha, I was wondering how he did that...

Cool thingy: In your title bar, it has the currently playing song.

And, I don't think it has playlist support (yet)... but you should be able to start playing a song, somehow, in the <body onload=>tag.. just figure out what javascript function is called and how it's called and you can do that from the <body onload=> tag..

You have to extract the directory with pictures too... and then you have to run it all in a javascript capable browser. (Like, try IE5 or IE6 or Netscape 6 or something).

It's javascript, which means it depends on the browser.. well, actually, now I think about it... you do need to have media player active x control, I guess.. or you could change the source so it uses a different media player control.. that shouldn't be too hard.

actually it looks like it is written to source the active x control from the microsoft website, not sure whether it would work or not.

Wow! Thank to everyone who has complemented me! I'm really proud of it, I tried to make every detail exact and I think I may have done it except of course details that cannot be recreated like the visualizations.
It only works in IE because I self-taught myself Javascript and I didn't realize javascript was different browser to browser so I unskilled in cross-browser programs althogh that is a plan someday.
Thanks again and remember if you find any bugs email me.
Belive it or not this is the fourth version of my audio player. THe first version had a playlist and used cookies to save it but it was ugly and it had millions of errors but it gave me a lot of information about cookies and windows media player. The second one was like an ode to Winamp, it used images I made in a winamp style format and was very cool but had a lot of problems analyzing audio files. The third one was my favorite till now, it had a complete overhaul, I changed all the code but kept the appearance and made it's capabilities go through the roof. Now the playlist can be recreated in Javascript and I'm fairly sure I can do it but I may encounter problems, if I can recreate it it will use cookies but I don't have a clue about streaming audio if anyone can point me to some information on the subject I would love to make something like that.
Also, to the guy who put it on his website, thanks a lot! Now I can check out if my image preloading works.

http://www.radiotoolbox.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=74 on the streaming stuff.

I am not sure how the media player engine will work with it though so you may have to consider building your own engine some where along the line, check out www.freedomaudio.com they have one that is independent from active X, and runs on its own decoding engine.

Staticreator, are you going to do the equilizer and play list?, it would be a shame if you didn't.

Staticreator, I want to add it to my website but thought I should ask first. I made a few changes so that it would suit my needs: I changed it from using .bmp to using .png and I put it in a .js file sepperate to the host HTML file and I changed the skin directory so that the host HTML file can determain the skin. So basicly I'll be using different HTML files for different skins, and the HTML files will be using the one javascript. So do I have permission? (please!).

Oh and try the microsoft website if you haven't already to find info on window's media player.

To J_Bloggs

The HTML file has a varible called "dir" at the beginning, whatever your enter for the value of this will be tacked on to the filenames of the files needed, what you should do is create in one folder with several directories inside it, each one with different skin files. Then copy my file (in one piece) once for each different folder. Then open the files up and change the "dir" varible to, the name of it's corresponding folder plus a "/" sign (NOTE: If you use the "\" sign then use this instead: "\\"). Also tell me where you website is.

Staticreator, this way the javascript part of your code only has to be downloaded once, I'm thinking of all the people out there with a 56k modem (like me). I changed the dir varable to use the varable skin, which is specified in the HTML file with the HTML part of your code, it works. My site is http://joebloggs.tk (also in my sig). It won't be up for awhile because I'm redoing my whole site and I haven't made any skins yet.

Good idea, I hadn't thought of that. Just make sure you keep the attributes in the BODY tag intact, otherwise it will not load. Also keep in mind that I will update Javascript Winamp2x and I'll probably email you with the files.

Does that link for the html work for everyone else? It won't load for me.

Does this proggy solve my husband's problem of needing an mp3 player that will run off a floppy? Would this cause him any sort of security problems? (See my post if you're wondering what the heck I'm talking about )

I'd really like to see this thing... lol

<edit>Okay, I just went ahead and downloaded it. Pretty cool, dude, nice job. Won't work for our problem though, since you can only open one song at a time. No playlist? </edit>

A playlist will be avalible in the next version along with some streaming support (Just enough so that you can hear single mp3s on the same server). Netscape users will probably be satisfied with the next version (Possibly Opera users too). It will use cookies and such to save playlists but cookies don't transfer to other computers so you won't be able to transfer them. Right now I'm just trying to make the new version compatible with Netscape so it will be awhile until the final version, just keep watching the boards.
