Media is not to blame (fully) on the violence problem, otherwise Japan would be a killing field of violence.
Could it be a nations history? Look at Germany today, it was home of the Nazi party, and now it has a small violence rate.

Music isn't real people killing each other. Although I admit some of this trapping Young Lad stuff I listen to could be iterpretd as that I assure you there are lyrics in it. , What is your definition of violent media, movies? VideoGames? By nature the citizens of Japan are pacifists that avoid violence at all costs, the normal citizens that is. And the media? There is hardly any violence on TV, stupid romance dramas, talk shows, weird TV games, good shows, news, and very lame movies..... So are you talking about VideoGames? you know that there is no such things as the game Mortal Kombat in Japan, even though it was made by Nintendo? The violence in games are those of the regular street fighter and tekken, where the object of the game is to defeat the competition, not to pull their spinal corde out of their ass and make them eat it.
Maybe there is violence through comic books, I will agree, but in all comic books there is a hero set out on a mission of good. And I guess your extent of Japanese Cartoon media is 'Dragon Ball' (which by the way ended 7 yrs ago
). The extent of violence was shooting fire balls and destorying the earth 5 times in a row.... Very Real Violence. So in another words, don't jump to conclusions without visiting that country, because in essence your message is another form of media, capable of steering other people's opinions and beliefs.
