LINCOLN CITY, Ore. – A Lincoln City councilman has proposed a ban on pit bulls after one resident was recently mauled by two of the dogs.
David Jones was walking his dog last month when two pit bulls attacked them. The pit bulls bit the man and his dog several times and didn’t stop until police stepped in and killed one of the pit bulls.
Jones required 17 stitches on his arm and said he was physically and emotionally scarred.
He’s convinced the pit bulls would have killed him if it weren’t for police.
Councilman Rick Brissette said his under his plan, current pit bull owner wouldn't have to give up their dogs. Rather, it would prevent additional pit bulls from being brought into the area.
The proposal was discussed at a city council meeting on Monday. Councilors seemed to favor toughening the existing animal ordinance, under which the owners of dogs that bite others must pay a $50 fine.
