  • AIM Shutting down December 15th 2017

    https://lifehacker.com/end-of-an-era...ear-1819216746

Well, AIM is finally shutting down by the end of this year. It made it barely over 20 years, though I don't know anyone who actively uses it anymore, but then again I want to keep my 19+ year old screen name alive.

AIM and Winamp are roughly the same age, the nice thing is that even if radionomy stopped ****ing around around and shut down winamp, we can still use it. With AIM though, once it's gone, it's gone.

At least I can still keep my AIM screen name as an email...
Current Setup: Windows 10 Pro, Sound Blaster Z, Logitech Z-5500, Winamp v5.666.3516

Also Picasa has been discontinued, this is the other thread "Another old faithful (Picasa) put to death.":
The forum for all things in the news. Politics, war, international, national, technical, program releases. All the news that's fit to blab about. Now more than before.

I had no possibilty anymore to use AIM on my PC or AOL Lifestream in Firefox or Chrome. Because of our unknown enemies Frank and I had to deactivate our Facebook-Accounts on 24th December 2014, and maybe we cannot return anymore, but maybe we also don't want that. I had mentioned this problem also in some other threads. Since that time Frank and I are so lonely. Only I myself can stop by on some of the websites from time to time.

Then also my E-Mail-Address (my AIM screen name) could stay alive. Losing E-Mail-Adresses because of very nasty people, it can happen very quickly.

But also in my loneliness I myself still can use Winamp on my PC (Vista) and on my notebook (Win 7). Will also I myself ever experience that with a Windows 10 Computer, after I didn't experience Windows 8 / 8.1? I myself had experienced Windows XP only for a short time because in the past Frank had some more computer-knowledges than I myself. Now I myself have some more computer-knowledges. Because we don't have enough true friends, we had to learn everything alone.

But whatever will be shut down as next, at least I want to be sure, that the forums, Winamp and Milkdrop will live much longer than I myself...

Yeah I remember AIM from the late 90's and it was great I stopped using it 4 or 5 years ago but it was a staple in communication history now everyone uses discord and Skype even that will be phased out eventually. Though it's been a good ride and my AIM name won't be around anymore after December it will remain a piece of history. It is the end of an era but we have other programs that can do the same stuff.

Reactivate your accounts... and just simply use the BLOCK function on anyone who dares to threaten you on the website I have and life on facebook is wonderful but then again I've kept to family only now No random strangers on my list.

Re AIM I had an AIM user name way back when but never really used it, I'd moved onto the likes of MSN and Yahoo messenger (when it connected)

Older technology doesn't work well on newer Windows systems.

Unfortunately more incidents had happened. In Autumn 2014 some unknown people with their mobile devices had stood near our multi-family-house every day for many hours, and although our router from 2013 had WPA2, the criminal people had hacked our WLAN-Key. When we had turned off our WLAN in December, suddenly these people had disappeared. In the same time Frank's identity had been stolen, we had to contact the police. At home we had disconnected our computers, only in the computer-room of the meeting-point I stop by from time to time. Here it is secure, the computers are up to date. At home I have more time for my artist works than before December 2014.

About Facebook: Frank and I dislike also Facebook itself more and more. The public mud-battles and the many hate-comments, they are really annoying, but also the policy of Facebook. Artists are not allowed to use their pseudonyms in Facebook, also they can get trouble with Facebook, if they want to click "Like" for all birthday-wishes by their "Facebook-Friends". But the most "friends" were not really friends, and especially I myself had many problems with internet-stalkers and other troublemakers.

At least Frank and I are on the other bigger music-websites and social networks. I work on some of my public music-playlists from time to time, and I am active also on deviantART...

No, it's all a joke and the internet/news sources are in on it.

In case You are interested more about the topics with backup-copies, people in the internet and people in real, I have some own threads in:
Winamp & SHOUTcast Forums > Community Center > The Bitchlist

In the help-section of aol.de / aol.com there is an article about the shutdown of AIM. Already in 2011 it was not easy for me to find the website aim.com and also the download-link to AIM.

On the previous Windows Install on my Workstation PC there was also Windows Messenger (already pre-installed). I wanted to try out Yahoo Messenger and ICQ, but I stayed on AIM and I reinstalled it. I refused to install the Facebook Messenger, that was a very good decision. Also I never used WhatsApp or Instagram.

Frank had once Skype on his PC for a short time after a former contact in real had bothered us to try that out, and in Media Markt they had said, we could use also the loudspeakers. Frank and I refuse to use in-ear-phones and earbuds because we like only supraaural and circumaural headphones. Because there were conflicts with other software, Frank had uninstalled Skype very quickly.

I used AIM a few times for chatting with some of the "Facebook-Friends". But I never got the wanted artists into a chat. Other people who were very stressful suddenly started a chat with me very often, also if I didn't have the time right now. Later I turned off the chat, and I turned it on only a few times and very shortly. Also it was necessary for us to remove the birthdate from the info, after I got trouble with Facebook just because I wanted to click "Like" for each birthday-greeting on my wall. And then we discovered, mostly the other Facebook-Users wanted to use us for their own purposes only because they were very selfish. At least we have no problems with them anymore.

I think, that also AOL Lifestream in the browsers (Firefox & Chrome) will not work anymore after the 15th December 2017...

Yeah, I started with AOL, then AIM, and used that mostly until Gchat and now I just basically use email and texting, though I have played with ICQ, Windows Messenger (on XP), skype and various other protocols, though none stuck which I guess is a result to getting older.

I believe AOL lifestream ended a while ago as now when you go to the lifestream page, you are redirected to aim.com

last time i used AIM messenger was back in 2010. Since than i switched to Skype and i am sure skype will retain its market share since microsoft is keeping it up with trends (esp: all time famous video call)

AIM lost it when they stopped keeping up with innovation.

AIM was good for linking with other producers/DJ's and sending out files. Seemed to just die a death.

Im guessing people moved over to soundcloud for accepting/sending material.
