  • 1MB cable here we come!

Yup just signed up for it, they're comming to bring round the modem and that on tuesday. Then we're going to get one of these (The second from top one )I think so we can share it over the network.

w00t, guess I won't be going out any more.

I got 512k ADSL the other month - it's most pleasing being always connected to the internet.

Can't get anything quicker though, because of where I live.

I just moved to a new city, but in the same state. I've noticed a big difference in the cable. At my old place I got around 225k downstream (2.something megabits) and my uploads were around 50k. Now that I move my downstream is about 330k (!) and my uploads are only around 25-30k. I dunno, given the choice, I'd rather have the upstream. Sure, its nice to download at 330k, but its not *that* much faster. Its only a few seconds difference.. but uploading is bad. We're talking minutes difference. 5 minutes instead of 2-3 per mp3. When you have an fserv that is a big deal. Hehe. So whats the deal with upstream? Would you all rather have faster download rates, but have the upload suffer for it or vice versa?

networks kick ass file sharing kicks ass . good thing to do is get a router with cable/dsl gateway built in. its more secure and you dont have to leave one computer on all the time to access the internet.

                      I'm ditto farking 128 upload...

When I had @Home my speeds were only limited by network traffic. I had pings of 20 on empty CS servers in L.A.

At the moment I'm thinking about one of these, because it's in stock and then one of these so we use the upload link on the switch so we can share it between 6-7 machines.

I have a Linksys 4-port router and its fantastic. It literally takes more time to hook up the cables than it does to make the router work. The *only* thing that might be a tad tricky is turning off DHCP so that you can forward ports to specific machines. All that really requires is going to each machine and setting a static IP for the network. No biggie. Do that once and you're good to go. If you have no need for port forwarding, you'll have all your machines online in seconds.
