interactive gifs?

somebody told me about interactive gifs, that GIF-formatted files may be not just animated, also interactive.


does anyone know how do this goes?

The graphic format only supports animation, not interactivity.

I think he may have been talking about Macromedia Flash animations, as they can be converted to GIF files, but they can certainly not be interactive as picture files of all types including GIF.

but by converting an interactive SWF to GIF it should keep the interactity, shouldn't?

No. A gif doesn't have support for interactivity. Converting a swf to a gif just takes the frames and makes a gif - doesn't transfer the interactivity.
