  • CD quality...ha!

I've been a professional musician for 23 years and have recorded three of my own albums and appeared on or produced several others. Although for convenience it's hard to beat MP3s for size vs quality, even CDs sound pretty bad. Let's face it, a CD is a digital approximation of an analog event. Most CDs sound harsh to an audiophile's ears and induce listener fatigue in everyone (though many are not aware of it, even as it's happening). Of course, with the junk that passes for music these days, I couldn't care less about bitrates and so on, but when I listen to quality music, played by real (and talented) musicians, I still prefer a good vinyl record on a good analog sound system. No CD even comes close. Well, that's my rant for the day

Why don't you use a vinyl plugin to get that old crappy sound that you like

I had a friend try to tell me that audio amplifiers with vacuum tubes sound better than amplifiers with solid-state components.... Not only to vacuum tube amps sound worse, the waste more power and give off more heat. Solid-state sounds better. Digital solid-state amps sound the best.

Sorry to say this Sarge, but you are not really right in what you say. A triode tube based system will sound better if the right components are used and a very high quality power supply with filtration system is used. many people don't realize it, but digital, even with the highest sampling rate will never be as good as analog... granted the human ear can hardly tell the difference unless you are a true audiophile, but there is one. for more info on this, check out the amplification unit that comes with the Sennheiser Orpheus HE/HEV90. A truely analog amplification unit. the link is here:
Sennheiser makes their high-end headphones in Germany with incredible attention to detail. Enjoy 365-day returns & free shipping on Headphones.com!

I wish i had the link, but i read a paper written by a professor that explains this in much better detail.. I'll look for it when i get home from work.

Ok, so the first thing I said here is a matter of opinion... but the other two are true. I'm sorry, but no one is gonna tell me that my 300 watt Sharp stereo system doesn't sound damn good. It's analog, but it's got solid-state power transistors in the amplifier. I'd be in heaven if it were digital.

I just checked out that link you gave me.... GOD DAMN!! 15 thousand bucks! My Sharp is worth $1,200... but at least mine came with a 5CD changer and speakers.

Sorry sarge, you are a kewl person, but i agree. analog does use more power i agree, but it "can" sound better depending on the amps. it really takes alot of power and $$$. but anyway, digital can be up to par as long as $$$ is not of an issue. oh well, i'll ttyl. bye sarge 4 now.

No need for apologies. We like what we like. It just happens to be that I like something a little different than you do. That's all.

That tube amp that you linked to is really sweet, though...

I can't affored it 'yet', but in the future you never know. as of now i am in the same boar as you, and on a completely different note, i am test driving the grand prix GTP Special Edition and the Bonneville. Already tested the Impala LS. Wish me luck

God, it's been a long time since I've actually heard any idiot say that LP's are better than CD's. It's just not true. Sure, it's a digital representation of an analog event, but I mean, LP's have been digitally recorded since the late 60's, so it's all digital anyway! I wouldn't want to go back to listening to LP records made using 1950's technology when CD's and windows media audio ar close at hand.

Awesome! Those are some great choices. I know I wouldn't mind having one... That Special Edition Grand Prix sounds positively delicious. Good luck!

Um, me didn't say that LP's were better than CD's... The Masters are better than CD's, but LP's I think have degredation in quality just by how they work. It is a friction system.

Sarge, I know what you mean, it is a suh weet car. I can't wait to get behind the wheel of it. If it has enough room for me (I am a big guy) and also has better feel than the Impala, my descesion may be made. The Bonneville is only being tested off a recomendation by a friend, but hey, you never know. Ahh well, ttyl. And i meant boat in the above post.
