I've been a professional musician for 23 years and have recorded three of my own albums and appeared on or produced several others. Although for convenience it's hard to beat MP3s for size vs quality, even CDs sound pretty bad. Let's face it, a CD is a digital approximation of an analog event. Most CDs sound harsh to an audiophile's ears and induce listener fatigue in everyone (though many are not aware of it, even as it's happening). Of course, with the junk that passes for music these days, I couldn't care less about bitrates and so on, but when I listen to quality music, played by real (and talented) musicians, I still prefer a good vinyl record on a good analog sound system. No CD even comes close. Well, that's my rant for the day
