I remember, when I travelled with my family to the Black Forest (Germany), it was Summer 1979. On a meadow a calf tried that with a pig. I wasn't fast enough with the camera, but it was very funny. And I have read, that male rabbits can try that also with other species.
The gender also doesn't matter. A male cat can try that with a male cat again and again. Charlie did that with Paule many times, also before our female cat Bambi had died (she was ignored by the male cats). I made some photos and I showed them the veterinarian.

We wish, we could have a new cat or two, like in the good old times, if I see this very nice picture, but our financial situation has become so much worse. Will it become better again ever? We want to have a little bit more security before adopting a new pet...

Today all tenants in the block of houses (4 houses, for each apartment another landlord) got an angry letter from the management for the houses. For example "A non-agreed animal husbandry is prohibited."...
The management for the houses have changed many times. Pets were always allowed, but it seems, they are not allowed anymore. We don't have the money to move to a better apartment, where pets are still allowed...
Even if we can never have a new pet anymore, I will still love all cats of the world, and the landlords & management cannot break me in all my pure love...

@ Widdy, when I was reading Your post, I had tears in my eyes again...
I don't know the most neighbors, and I think, one of the newer neighbors could hate pets and she could have complained about other tenants with pets. Each apartment has another landlord, but all tenants in the 4 houses have the same management. Sure, a tenant can ask a landlord for permission, and a landlord can say "Yes" or "No". I will also ask some lawyers again. In the last contract little pets were allowed without asking the landlord, only for dogs and other bigger pets the landlord had to be asked...
Yesterday I had a girl-friend with cats at the telephone. Pets are allowed there, and they have also apartments with 2 rooms, with a lift for older people and a little bit cheaper. But moving without making debts?...
I can only say, I see such a prohibition for tenants as a violation of human rights and human dignity...
