  • Dark Side of the Moon?

Did anyone happen to take pictures of the Lunar Eclipse last night? I took a few and they didn't turn out too well.

Here are a couple of shots I took with my little Nikon L-10 on a tripod.

9:20pm EST. About 15 minutes into the event, through clouds and treetops. No zoom.

10:10pm EST. Near full coverage, after the sky cleared up and the moon had risen above the trees. 3x optical zoom.

Looks more like an orange color to me.

My little $99 camera didn't do justice to all the shades of color that actually appeared. With my naked eye, the colors seemed to range from a light pink at the shadow's threshold (upper right) to a medium burnt sienna on the darkest edge (lower left).

I'm sure a lot of cameras didn't quite get it right.

Did anybody else think of Pink Floyd when reading the thread title?

I have a $100 camera as well. It does fine for most things.(trying not to derail the thread too much)

I need to grab that album if I ever see it on sale somewhere. I heard it's good.

It's one of the best albums in rock history. If you get it and find that you like it, then I'd also recommend their two subsequent releases, Wish You Were Here and Animals. (The latter is my favorite album of all time.) Then I'd recommend The Wall next. The rest of their albums are significantly different than these from the "core" of their collection, and most would only satisfy collectors and hardcore Pink Floyd afficionados, like me.

Based on its age and ubiquity, you should be able to find Dark Side of the Moon it in a bargain bin somewhere.

Captured Saturn in there as well at the bottom-left of both pictures.
