  • Black Friday Do You buy?

Black Friday will soon be upon us again with lots of offers on a lot of stuff that people think they need but don't...

Do you search out the Bargains on Black Friday? Or do you think its OVERHYPED commercialism? (Get me using Big words)

I've never looked for a bargain on Black Friday

Recently bought a 42" TV last month for £299 that had £50 off online, In the supermarket it was £349

It doesn't matter the time of year as I tend to shop around for an Item before I buy it

I celebrate Buy Nothing Day instead. I enjoy relaxing with my family the day after Thanksgiving, not buying crap we don't need just because it's 5% off.

I know I'm privileged to not work that Friday and I don't want to incentivize companies for opening early on Friday to satiate America's consumerism and force workers to be away from their families.

That American thing has also came over to Europe
shops simply change the advised price over some period of time.

last year we got a new TV , the price at black friday was over 100 euro's higher than i paid for it.

No thanks , they can keep black friday and cyber monday.

I don't like the commercialism of black friday, let alone the crowds. (Not a good idea right now.) However, I had been saving money for the old Sony WH-1000Xm3. Since the m4 has been out, it has dropped in price significantly. And with black friday, it went down further...

... so I parked my principles at the back door and cheated.

I was already very familiar with the m3. It's awesome. And very quiet.

Normally I won't shop that day, but near that day in 2020, I picked up two Infinity 12-inch home theater subwoofers (model R12) for far less than the sale price of one, shipped free. They regularly go on sale for $500, but I got both for $360 total including tax and free shipping. Best part of it was, I didn't have to make the purchase on the actual "Black Friday" but rather a couple days earlier. They sound much better than my ancient dj subs that have been used and abused for decades.

Outside of that purchase, I really don't think I've made any "Black Friday" purchases for dozens of years. Usually the items that do have good deals aren't quality items and I'm too busy with family and friends. I'm too picky of a shopper anyway, meaning I rarely buy anything unless it's exactly what I have researched to be the best fit for what I'm trying to get. Once I have it, I keep it forever and fix when necessary, so it's easier to not shop and afford the good stuff when I'm forced to shop.
