Over the past few years my family and I have been slowly building up debt and it's come to a head lately to where it's making paying our monthly bills difficult. There should be some significant public assistance available considering the vision impairment. If the children become your dependents, that could increase potential benefits as well, making bills more affordable. It could be handled at both state and federal levels. As a school counselor, I can sometimes help families with children get the assistance they need through referral to agencies, but I am in a different state than you are, so it might be a bit different, but probably at least somewhat similar. I don't advocate for abuse or misuse of public assistance, but in many cases it's quite appropriate and justified, so never feel too proud to get some help. Here in West Virginia, a family could go to to DHHR (Department of Health and Human Resources) for state assistance options or any Social Security office for federal assistance. It may also help to check to see if your state has a form Division of Rehabilitation Services or Vocational Rehabilitation if you are looking for a job that could still be done with vision impairment or if you're looking for funds for assistive technology. Although I only focus on high school students in my job, it might be worth it to explore these options to see if they're available for adults as well.

I get disability from social security but it's not a lot because I didn't work for 30 years. My daughters get a check too but it doesn't go up with each kid, they split it in half instead. According to the state of Missouri we make too much for EBT. I've been thinking about trying to go through Voc. Rehab to see if maybe there's a job I can get around here but since I can't drive and we can't afford child care, it's kind of hard to get anything going.
