  • And on the 7th Day God made...

    This little gadget :

It's a little tool that can pick up just about anything. It's just so useful when messing around with pc's and little fiddly screws.

It was clearly made by a god of some sort as it is just so damn useful. I can't begin to explain how helpful it is and can't imagine life without it.

What tools do you play with a lot?

Oh hell no... Change that before Bilbo sees it!

I use my claw hammer a lot, actually. I build shelves and stuff like that, so it comes in handy.

I mainly use my standard size phillips head screwdriver and my multi-function pocket knife, and a pair of needle nose plyers.

I use a screwdriver that you can change the shaft around so that it is either a philips or flat head. Long nnosed pliers are also in my possession, and i have a pot full of screws, jumpers etc at my disposal.

I use a screwdriver that has about 40 different tips including torx bits, a 1/4 socket drive, and some wierd double-crescent tips... socket wrenches... 2 beam-type torque wrenches (great for breaking bolts loose too)...

Seen something like that in the motor trade, used to retrieve things dropped through valve ports.

Used to have a little item called a Valtoc screwdriver that gripped a screw so you could reach into akward places, That was for slots, never found the equivalent for cross heads. No matter how many screwdrivers you have, there is never one that is just right.

Not a big fan of multitools, great for emergencies, but not the sort of thing you would want to use day after day, They will no doubt improve in time, some of the latest ones I've seen are really quite comfortable to use.

My favourite tool of all has to be the Makita battery screwdriver, these sort of tools have revolutionised the speeed and ease (and saftey) of a lot of site work, it's hard to see how we could go back to all the trailing wires and lugging transformers about,

Yah ... The MiniMaglite one of the most useful devices ever, an essential part of any tool kit.

I have one of these - it's atomic!

It's actually for grabbing them little IC chips from their holders so you can't get static on them from your hands. But it's fantastic.

Another useful thing I had when I was at school about ten years ago was a magnetic metal stick. You could use it to pick items from people's pencil cases without them knowing.

Ujay - My dad has this multitool thing with a T-shaped handle. It's excellent because you get a great grip and can untighten any screw. I have no problems with it. He's a contracting engineer guy, so he needs lots of things like that.

I know the sort of thing you mean Merlin, very handy with all the security type fixings that are on the market now, you could never hope to have individual tools for every type.
Thats not the sort of multitool I had in mind though, I was talking about the sort of super Swiss army knife, a bit like one of those transformer type toys, it unfolds and twists about to give screwdrivers, pliers, files, saws, serrated knife etc. In England they are known as 'LeatherMen' and fit into a natty little belt pouch.
The ladies version is known as the 'Leather Bitch'

No it's actually just for picking up screws and stuff you drop. This little beauty at the front is what I think you're refering to. Never used it mind. There is also a little tool there in the middle (on the spine of the case) for pushing those little chips in. Never used that either. Pliars, wire cutters, screwdrivers and artic silver II. All priceless and for under £20
