*American Idol show to be used to select 2004 presidential canidate*

Now here's a reality show. Fox is deeply considering a serious version of their hit "American Idol", transforming it into "American Canidate" - people would be eliminated after they show their stuff at debating, oration, etc. The person left would be backed with a big money campaign under a new "people's party", which might very well posess power in the next election, given the media exposure such a venture would have.



This is my ticket to my lifelong dream- I'm totally going to audition!

I think it's a splendid idea. Not only does it fully open up the political process for all Americans to see, it democratizes the process even further.

Awsome! It will make elections more fun for people and probably get more people to vote in the end, which is something MTV's ROCK THE VOTE never did a great job at accomplishing.

Now, what would be fucked up is if the winner of American Canidate actually won the Presidential race.

i'd never vote for a individual who's primary election votes came from a bunch of morons who enjoy other fox programming like "alien autopsy," "lunar landing hoax," or "who wants to marry a millionaire."
nor would even fox represent the totality of even the TV generations.
to top that off, there was many questions to whether the voting process was rigged by people on speed dial devices for American Idol.

Ideally, yes. But lets not forget the type of people who make up the television watching audience. Or, what about how easy it is for the media to be the megaphone of the elite.

Yes, but no one is forcing you to vote for the candidate. In fact, no one is forcing you to vote for the party that will be created by the Fox network. But yes, I agree with you in principle. Although less then 25% of the populace votes, it should be that way.

And the Drudge Report, though sometimes dodgy, almost always has correct info.

Aeroe, you may hate fox TV but you as a conservative have to at least give a nod to the delightful Fox-News channel. Fox is capable of doing some good for society, if they apply themselves.

Provided that I don't win, I believe the canidate that such a show would produce would be:

A: Good looking
B: A Moderate _______
C: Female

I would like to think that the show would galvanize interest in poltical goings on and voting- and despite a lot of it being un-educated, would be a good thing.

i'm looking for the surprise "good" candidate to get through. on the pop idol thing in the UK, the guy who won was the guy who was less popular with little girls, but was a fantastic (he could do sinatra, man) singer. of course, the people in charge gave him crap pop songs to sing, and hired the younger, more little girl-friendly guy as well, giving the good singer a pop makeover too, wasting his talent

i guess this is what'll happen if a genuinely good candidate wins this - ah well.

Seriously, there are a few problems with that:
a) WHO THE HELL WANTS TO WATCH A SHOW FOR AN HOUR THAT ONLY SHOWS DEBATING, ETC... SKILLS? (sorry for the caps)
