  • "When you live in a nightmare, It's written all over your face."

It's been awhile since the last "weird dream" thread, so I guess I'll start one:

Over the last couple of nights I've had some fairly vivid dream series (for whatever reason, when I have dreams that I can remember they generally occur in clusters/series of unrelated dreams, in which I will be in one dream for awhile, then there will be a "change of venues" and I'll then be starting out in an entirely new dream unrelated to the preceding one, although I've noticed that different venues tend to recur from one series to the next, and the state of the various "dream worlds" evolves with respect to the things that I did in a previous dream, so there's a weird sort of progression that occurs from night to night, or even month to month. My "dream series" tend to have about 5 or 6 dreams each, usually only about 1 or 2 of which I can remember clearly...lol, LONG parenthesis thingy), and in the one which I remember most clearly:

I was walking through a sizeable city and I met this blonde chick (not based off of anyone I know in real life as far as I can tell), and we started talking and walking together, and we were getting along fairly well. We eventually came to this elevated walkway and at about the halfway point the next thing I knew she was falling over the metal guardrail on the walkway and I could do nothing but watch in terror as she fell about 100 feet to the highway down below. When she landed I could see blood spurt and stain the pavement near her, and a car passed over her and skidded to a stop, it's tires missing her. In a state of panic I used a nearby phone to call 911, and then after sitting there in shock for a few moments began to continue walking, figuring that after a fall like that she was surely dead. After awhile I noticed a news report on TV talking about how she had been taken to a hospital with injuries that didn't sound fatal to me (the report actually contained injury descriptions that sounded semi-technical but I can't remember them that well, I think it was something about "compressed vertebrae" or some such thing), so I used another nearby phone (dreams are handy like that) to call the doctor working on her to see if she'd be all right. He refused to give me a definate answer, and I fucking exploded on his ass, screaming at him and demanding a clear answer, but all he'd tell me is that "it could go either way," no matter how much I yelled. So finally, at the end of my rope and in a state of desperation, I tried to bribe him, saying something like "well I'll give you $300 per injured vertebrae if you make sure it goes the GOOD way," at which point he didn't reply, and I had a "change of venue."

The next dream was nowhere near as emotionally engaging, but I found myself in the checkout line in the supermarket where I buy my groceries, and the clerk informed me that he'd have to charge me some $6 extra. I asked why and he pointed out that I was in the 12 items or less line with more than 12 items (a fact of which I had been oblivious to until he pointed it out), and for some reason being charged extra for accidentally going to the wrong line bothered me (it probably wouldn't had it happened in real life), and I didn't feel like carrying my stuff to another line, so I protested and eventually talked him down to a $2 charge, which I was okay with, and then there was another "change of venue" to a dream which I don't really remember.

The night before this, I had a dream in one of my recurring "worlds," in which I had previously (i.e. in previous dreams) observed how these mafia guys would always pass by this certain spot at a certain time, presumably to do some evil mafia stuff, so this time I decided that I'd lurk in the woods near this spot with a large stick/club and when the mafia guys came I'd ambush them and beat them senseless and then take all their mafia stuff, but as long as I waited they never came...it was as if they knew what I was planning and decided not to go about their normal business that day. Having to sit around in those woods waiting for people who never showed up was quite annoying.

Anyways, that's it for now, I hope the world with the blonde chick in it ends up being one of the recurring ones (this was the first time I've dreamed of that place) so that I can see if she's alright or not...is it wrong of me to be more concerned about the welfare of a fictional dream character than I am about many people in real life? Feel free to post your own dreams, or to just commentate on mine, it's all good.

PS: To Xerxes, this makes 2 cryptic titles for me, several dozen for rm' and bop.

I can still remember this dream that I had when I was in grade school:

I was in my house. It was night time. Something from outside kept luring me to go and check it out. I would go outside for a second or two and then my parents would tell me to come back inside. Well, this happened a couple of times and on the second time I caught a glimpse of something strange, yet beautiful (dreams are wierd like that). I snuck out once more to see this thing. It was some kind of shiny green object hanging from a nearby tree. I couldn't take my eyes away from it, it mesmerized me. Upon closer inspection, it seemed to be a shiny green jewel that was giving off green light. Just as I was staring at it for a while, a girl came up to me and gave me a strange metel device. She told me to put it in my mouth so that I could breath better, so I did. At this point, both of us seemed to have been transported to a desertous region... the air was very dry and the thing in my mouth made breathing much easier. I had to share the device with this mysterious girl as we walked to this arabian town? (memory is fuzzy here). The next thing that I remember is that we were constantly hiding from bad people. While we were doing this, we became dependant on the device that we used to help us breathe. It became more like a drug than a breathing apparatus. Everytime I would use it, I would feel relieved and euphoric.

        That is all I remember...

Interesting, it starts like your generic alien abduction dream, and ends like a mildly pornographic James Bond movie, if such a thing even exists...

Aye! I give it 4 stars. I guess that is why I remembered it for so long.

I also remember this other dream I had about 7 or 8 years ago where I was running through the forest for no particular reason. I decided to duck down into a thicket of some sort when all of a sudden this bright thing popped up in front of me and my whole body became hot and tingled with electricity. The dream then shifted and I saw an extremely vivid vision of a sun rising over a hilly grassland surrounded by a sandy beach. It rose really fast, like 2 hours worth in a couple of seconds.I then woke up and remembered it like it just happened which is kind of weird b/c dreams usually fade away quickly. Man, that vision of the sun rise was more vivid than my normal vision I must say.

That's cool that your dreams are so "real." Mine come in fragments, and normally I only remember stills of the scenes occuring. Not fair. Your subconciuses' are better than mine.

What does it mean if somebody near you gets hurt? I remember somebody saying that if you die, it means somebody will get married. Odd.

A foolproof method for sculpting an elephant: first, get a huge block of marble; then chip away anything that doesn't look like an elephant.

try some transcendental meditation... It may just turn your dreamworld upside-down.

Agreed, I wish my dreams were as vivid as they were emotionally engaging, although I don't know if I'm ready to buy into this meditation stuff quite yet...all the people I know who go for that kind of thing are even weirder than me...

If you want the lo-down on it:

Yes, it can be powerful and even "dangerous" in my opinion. There is a difference between simple relaxation meditation and the meditition where you see how "far" you can go. The latter could mess with your psyche if you don't know what you are doing. After dabbling in it for a while, I can easily see how unprepared people who attempt it can become nuerotic or even insane.
