Today I took my dad to see 300. He really liked it but still complained that it was too loud. He's an old fart though, wanted to take some ear plugs but I wouldn't let him. Anyway, great fucking movie. To anyone who has yet to see it I envy you with your virgin eyes.
Spiral out, my friend. You will find your way back to yourself, we all will.
I'll be waiting, and shall see you on the other side...
Cannibal Holocaust (1980) and Renoir's La Règle du jeu (1939) [The Rules of the Game].
Both movies deal with our modern society, but on a very different level.
Cannibal Holocaust is surely a controversial movie. The full movie develops only in the second half and I found this part brilliant (even if the acting is not a masterpiece). Though it cannot be said that one enjoys the movie; brilliant, but not enjoyable. Deodato was beyond the time and created a remarkable movie.
I remember seeing some news in the mid 90's about westerners killing a dozen of native amazonian Indians. That was some 10-20 years after Cannibal Holocaust was shot. It seems that human civilization has not changed significantly in the last 2000 years.
La Règle du jeu is a different view at our modern society. Everything is just a game, and those who who take it for real cannot survive. A beautiful movie, too.
