Sick and tired of me posting R.E.M.?

Deal with it. I'm not done listening to them. There's too much and I want to hear it all before I'm through.

I was in (whatever is in my collection) alphabetical order by title at first, but then I deleted what I've heard on this list and randomized twice. It'll get a lot more random from now on.

I guess the more scholarly way to do it is chronologically by release date, but I'm just enjoying it for what it is - simple music - focus on meaning behind lyrics, almost neo-folk.

I understand that they are just barely competent as musicians (no amazing drumming or guitar/bass solos that make you want to quit playing guitar/bass or drums), and I also understand that their "notes, chords and rhythms" style had been done so many times before, but that doesn't seem to subtract from what they were. There's still something there that makes them worth something - I'm guessing lyrics, but there's likely more.

Being 'trained' in music, I look for things like 'text painting' where things like dynamic contrast or chordal interest will form a peak at pinnacle points of the text, but it still doesn't seem to be the case here with R.E.M. I might need some help looking for what it is (what an analyst would rightly say) that makes them worthy of such praise. Either way, the marathon goes on...
