  • AACplus - testing different bitrates.

    I keep on testing different bitrates for accplus coding.
    64kbps/44100kHz/stereo -> seems identical like 128kbps mp3
    But 48kbps/44100kHz/stereo seems pretty good.
    32kbps/44100kHz/stereo -> sounds "metallical"
    I listened to di.fm stations - their stations use 24kbps accplus settings and it's sounds unbelieveble good at this bitrate. Do You have any ideas how do they do that?
    Maybe they use different accplus codec (f.e. orban's?), maybe they use also dynamic processor? Any ideas?

    Try Parametric Stereo, and lowering the samplerate.
    32khz only cuts off frequencies most people don't hear (in music) anyway.

      i really wouldnt recommend going with 32khz. i find that due o it having to resample the stream, it really hikes the cpu usage even on my fastest machine (2GHZ with 512MB ram). stick to parametric stereo at 44khz. im running it now and it sounds great at 24k.

        It's possible DI is using not only the Orban encoder but the internal PC card processing unit as well. As nice as AAC+ is that card makes a helluva difference since it relieves the PC by pushing processing to the card.

          true. i was just pointing out that using the shoutcast dsp, trying to broadcast in 32khz brought the whole system to its knees. and opticodec was a peice of junk in its own way (imo).

          meh. PokeRadio is currently running AAC+ 24k, 44khz, param. stereo which is transcoded from a 192k mp3 stream via winamp and it sounds like cd quality here. i cant complain even if i tried.

            Orban released a new version of dynamic processor - pc card + software. You probably right.

              Listen to my accPlus station: test winamp here

              Hi, this is Kioni aka Dr. K at PositiveVibesRadio.net.
              I have two Orban Opticodec 64K accPlus streams in addition to a 64K mp3pro and a plain mp3 24K dialup stream. You can also download the Winamp Icecast2 Browser Plugin for ACC & accPlus audio stations on Winamp at my website.

              Winamp is the best choice for listening to acc and accPlus streams, an I am proud to be an official Winamp distribution outlet. Drop in, listen and give me feedback on the quality of the stream, ease of access, etc. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

              Dr. K

                you might want to mention somewhere that you didn't actually write that plugin (I did )

                BTW, oddcast now has aacp support

                  Oddsock, please send me the proper copyright information and I will make the addition on my website this weekend. BTW, nice plugin, love it.

                      Yeah, I did. Although there wasn't much that actually revealed a copy right nor trademark information. Nevertheless, I have hyperlinked the download and credited it to ODDSOCK.org. I beleive in treating people fairly and meant no disrespect to Oddsock nor blatant infringment to the forum's posting protocol.

                      Thank you.

                        maybe its just a matter of setting up a good bit of eq'n and compression for broadcasting?

                        i persoanlly don't hear anything special about the di streams.

                          Maybe you can achieve something with thisDynamics compressor DSP

                          If you use a multi dsp stacker, you could tune your stream perfectly with this fine Thingy.
