  • K got a ?? (Shoutcast DSP & Shoutcast DNAS) to stream HELP & CONFUSED!! lol

K, I notice that shoutcast has updated dramatically lol.

To set up a shoutcast server, do I have to buy a authkeyserial to make my stat public?? If not, does anyone have the original dsp/DNAS for shoutcast. Why buy a key serial for something that was & still is free. Can anyone help & explain to me please .

What do I need to setup a shoutcast server?

What I remember what is needed to set up a shoutcast server & to stream online, is:
    1. Winamp
    2. Shoutcast DSP
    3. Shoutcast DNAS

I have winamp already but what about the other two, heck I am confused durn it lol.

the parts needed are still the same. the only difference is an authhash which is _free_ if using a v2 DNAS which is reiterated as being _free_ in the help wiki and dice provided with the DNAS.

the authhash is there to help act as a fixed point of reference so your listing (if being listed - if not then its not needed) so the stationid and any clustering is going to be reliable - which is to fix the issues which the v1 system has with those matters.

the only payment is if you were using sc_trans for MP3 encoding which requires an unlock code due to MP3 licensing requirements. that is completely different to an authhash and despite everything in the docs, etc this false view that an authhash is not free keeps coming up and I'd love to know where people keep finding / being told that is the case when it is absolutely not.

as long as you setup the DNAS correctly e.g. all required port forwarding and get the source dsp connected to it, making the authhash is simple to do (as per the docs) and then its like before.

      Thanky DrO
Is there anyway you can put a DNAS example with the authhash. How it looks so I can see what it looks like please!

So I can get the idea as to it is suppose to look like.

      So I don't need the sc_trans?
      I only need winamp,dsp & dnas?
I can still play mp3's with out the transcoder right?

Is the v1 DNAS still available or is it unstable now & I should use v2 DNAS?

you'll be better off waiting for the v2.2 update and it's setup mode - that will give you a v1 like experience whilst helping automate most of what's needed to make an authhash (later tonight / tomorrow morning depending on final compiles and when i need sleep).

an example is just sc_serv_simple.conf with a streamauthhash=xxx line (which is what is shown in that file) and using that example will cause issues due to a bug in the current build of the DNAS where it'll incorrectly treat that line as a valid authhash when it isn't (which might even be what you're experiencing).

you didn't mention sc_trans in the original post so i have no idea what / how / if you're using it. everything which could be done with a v1-based setup can be done with all of the current Winamp (v5.65), Source DSP (v2.3.3) and DNAS releases (the pending v2.2).

the v1 DNAS is not officially provided and is not supported. if that's what you want to use then you would be on your own (that sounds harsh but it's a 5+yr old code base that hasn't been touched with the v2 DNAS intended as it's successor [despite the issues v2.0 has which v2.2 should resolve]).

K I'll wait for Shoutcast DNAS v2.2 to come out (will you mske a sticky for that version update?) & I'll get Shoutcast DSP . I used v1 dsp & dnas yrs ago but I went on dj haitus! But I want to get back in djing again so. I keep seeing sc_trans & have buy a key & was lke WTH lol.

Good I can still play mp3's without that. Is the dnas server easier to understand? ie; was it made easier to edit the 3 parts, easier to read then the old dnas lol!

The old dnas was hard to understand & it was hard to find he parts that needed to be updated. It looked cluttered.

What I'm saying is, did ya guys clean up the dnas in v2 & will it be cleaned & organized in the dnas v2.2??

yes - it'll be a forum exclusive to start with.

welcome to the fun of MP3 licensing (and technically AAC should be paid for as well but that's currently paid by AOL for you so you get something for free) as it's just MP3 encoding which has to be paid for separately, hence the small fee.

i don't know how to answer that as i don't know what you specifically find hard about parts of it. the actions on the pages of the DNAS are generally the same like a v1 DNAS with some additions so i don't know what to say. until you try it then that is going to be the only way to know (though based on those questions, you'll probably have v2 if you didn't like v1).

For me to play mp3's, I'll have to pay! Why do we have to pay to play mp3's for & who's bright idea was that lol. I like to smack em lol

What I'm saying about the dnas being cluttered. In v1, for me not to loose my place in the code, I had to space it to find it to edit the parts that needed to be edited in the dnas & after I was done with the edits, I took the spaces back out to make the code look normal before I started the my edits!

most formats require some sort of licensing for encoding and decoding of them (MP3, AAC, h.264, etc). as you're using Winamp + Source DSP then that is covered, but if using sc_trans, then it needs it's own licensing (which is confusing but again is due to the fun that is licensing and how things are setup / created).

are you referring to config file editing?

Yes, the config file (my apologies), of the dnas, it looked cluttered imo lol

it was cluttered because the v1 config file was also the documentation. the v2 has separate documentation and config examples (v2.0) and additionally a setup / config builder mode (v2.2 though the config builder was in v2.0) which should make it easier to make a config so if it does need to edited later on then it won't be as daunting. though others hate this separation of things so who knows if you'll like it or not.

It will make it a whole lot easier for me to edit! Please implement that way into dnas v2.2 update DrO!
