  • Unable to connect to Shoutcast Server

    Hello All

First of all I'm new to this so please excuse me if I don't understand things straight away.

I am trying to establish an internet based community radio station for near where I live.

For my playout system I am using a free programme called PlayitLive :-

    https://www.playitsoftware.com/Products/Live

PlayitLive is installed on a dedicated computer running Windows 10 Pro. All the music is loaded, the scheduling is organised and 'locally' the software and playout sounds great (through the speakers).

PlayitLive has a plugin which allows the software to stream the music over the internet :-

    http://docs.playitsoftware.com/InternetBroadcastPlugin/

    I've installed the plugin.

I've also registered a radio station at Shoutcast.com using the free option where I have to schedule two adverts to be played every hour. I've applied for a user account and have the following details which I've inserted in Playitlive's streaming configuration setting

    Streaming server URL is "master.shoutcast.com".

    Port is "8000".

    Stream ID is "913790".

I'm assuming that my RMO password is the same password I registered with on Shoutcast? What does RMO stand for?

For some reason I cannot get PlayitLive to connect to the Shoutcast servers. I have a really strong and stable internet connection (Fibreoptic - 25mpbs up, 60-70mbps down).

Do I need additional software installed and configured on the playout computer? Do I need another computer as a server? Could a firewall be interfering? Is there something I need to do with the router? Do I have to wait for Shoutcast to validate my account? If so how long does this typically take?

Any help would be very much appreciated as I have a deadline of 29th July to get the station on the air.

    Many Thanks

    Hello Stuart,

RMO = Radio Manager Online (it was originally a Radionomy thing)

The RMO is where you create/register/manage stations etc

    PlayIt InternetBroadcast plugin encoder configuration

    Server Address: master.shoutcast.com

    Port: 8000

Password: Same as RMO login password

    SID: 913790

Username or Mount = not required

    Format: MP3
    Bitrate: 128

For Streaming Service (SCSS) stations, the format & bitrate must match the configuration in the RMO

    Station Name: SPARK RADIO MAIDSTONE

URL: Your own website, if you have one

If you require further assistance, then I recommend you contact us via the Support form or email address, because I can't/won't post your password or any other sensitive information here (the Server & SID was probably already stepping into that territory).

Hi DJ Egg, and thanks for getting back to me.

So I have registered for the SCSS option. I'll double check that I have the correct settings in PlayitLive Streaming/Encoder configuration when I get home, and then I'll try again.

Just to be sure - I don't need any other software running on my PC? It's just a matter of making sure that the configuration is correct?

      Many Thanks again.

          Hi DJ Egg

Your suggestion helped me last night and I had the stream working! However, this morning the stream is not working. I've not changed anything and my playout system says that it is connected to the shoutcast servers and streaming.

Are you able to help me please?

          Many Thanks

          Stu

            Hmmmm, just disconnect and reconnect.

If your encoder has an "automatic reconnection on connection failure" setting, like the Winamp DSP plugin, then enable it, because sometimes it might take a few attempts depending on server load.

The listen.shoutcast.link can take anything from 30 seconds up to 15 minutes to start working, also depending on server load.

I Need a LOT of help, please

I'm tagging on to this thread because it's new and very close to my situation, too.

I'm also a newby and I am off to a terrible start. I have set up my radio station and can't for the life of me figure out how to get it on line for the Shoutcast Monetization program. I have a profile that shows up. I guess I'm not sure how to set up the DNAS program. I'm using Radio DJ as my programming source, and I am streaming on listen2myradio right now.

My station listen link is: http://listen.shoutcast.com/jukebox927wepq. The profile says I'm active, so where have I gone wrong? What's my next (or first) step? Is there a place where I can find a step-by-step walk-through for this stuff?

I'm actually a 40 year veteran of on air broadcasting and have worked with program automation, but this on line stuff is totally new to me.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

                Hey, Chip.
Although it seems your situation is "much like" the original poster (OP, for short) it's easier to pinpoint the nerfs you have in a separate post, then others can chime in without hijacking this one, so I'd suggest you to open a new thread with your inquiries so the community can address it particularly.

I'll be glad to help you through, once you have your own post.

                Best regards,
                keijo.-
I have no ties to Radionomy/TargetSpot in any way. My posts/replies are my own so any advice I can give, try at your own risk.

Thanks for the tip, Keijo. I have set up this post as a new thread and I'm looking forward to your help.
