  • I need help with an "Invalid Menu Handle" error message on Shoutcast!

When I try to access a station on the Shoutcast website by clicking on the "Tune In" button, I receive the following message- "C:\Documents & Settings\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\2FWRETKZ\Shoutcast-Playlist[1].pls

The error message reads- "Invalid menu handle"

I have already tried to fix by clearing my temporary internet cache, but that did not help.

FYI... I am running Windows XP Professional, and th problem only started after I downloaded the Winamp 5.13 upgrade a few days ago (could that be part of the problem?).

    Please advise. Thanks!

    "Documents & Settings"

Is that really the name for your Documents and Settings directory?

An "&" ampersand in a directory may confuse some applications -- in this case it's WinAMP, which may not be able to handle that ampersand in the path.

What to do? First see if the path is the problem by copying the file to a different directory not containing the ampersand and trying to launch it with explorer. If that does work, try some more files from that tree...

I wouldn't change the name of the directory because a whole lot of stuff is already related to that path, but you can help IE "deal" better by changing the location of the temporary/cache files to a directory that does not contain the "&."

It's not a problem per se, but whoever created that directory name with an "&" in it should be shot -- spaces are bad enough in dir/file names, reserved chars are really asking for trouble -- I'm surprised you don't have other "issues" because of it.

I am VERY embarrassed... the correct error message reads as folllows-

      C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\2FWRETKZ\Shoutcast-Playlist[1].pls

The error message reads- "Invalid menu handle" .

As you expected, there is no ampersand... that was my fault! Sorry!

Any suggestions on this would be appreciated! Thanks!

What app gives the error message? IE? WinAMP?

If it's IE, then the installation of the new WinAMP did not update IEs external app list for .pls files such that IE is still looking for the old version[?].

Makre sure that the new WinAMP reclaims the media types you want and that IE knows that there is a new WinAMP in town.

The error occurs when I double click on the "Tune In" button for any staion in Shoutcast... so is the problem in Shoutcast, Winamp, or IE (does IE mean Internet Explorer?)?

          Please advise, and thanks!

If you're refering to deleting all temporary internet files, I've tried that several times, to no avail. Still receive that same error message.

If that's not what you mean, please elaborate.

              Please advise, and thanks!

well something about your cache is messed up then. This is a caching issue. You may want to reboot and try clearing it after the reboot.

Single clicks are called for in webpages, not double clicks.

Double clicks only work in explorer and on your desktop.

Cleaned the Temporary Internet cache again, rebooted... no change in status.

This problem only started after I downloaded the Winamp 5.13 upgrade. I know I'm having the problem on the Shoutcast website, but I did want to note that fact.

I'm having no other problems except when I try to stream a any station at Shoutcast... please advise.

                    Thanks!

Just ran into the same issue and have a workaround

Do the following. In IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, Settings (Temporary Internet Files) and change the directory that your Temporary Internet Files are going to. Switch the %userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files to %userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp. The pc will log off. The issue should be resolved when you log back in.
