Having trouble configuring SHOUTcast2?
Over the past few months many changes have been seen in SHOUTcast, chiefly SHOUTcast 2.
With these new changes have come numerous questions about the DNAS configuration file. A forum member, thinkthink, has taken the time to setup an anto configuration site for SHOUTcast.
If you are having trouble getting DNAS up and running or simply just can not figure out how to properly setup DJs with that pesky calendar file, look no further!

A big thanks to thinkthink and DrO for putting this together!

Need SHOUTcast help? Read me before posting...
Firstly if you're here with a problem with the Online Services part of your Winamp you're in the wrong forum. This forum is for help with broadcasting or using the SHOUTcast DNAS for streaming. The forum you're looking for can be found Here. Be sure you read all the 'sticky' threads in that forum before you post. If you're here for SHOUTcast, you've just discovered the wonderful world of SHOUTcasting. If you're reading this, you don't know what to do or need some help. I've created this with the help of nick@ss, evil lu, and hackerdork to accommodate the countless posts that ask for help everyday. Information is scattered around the forums here but this will be the one place to get the stuff you need to get up and going. This will get edited as needed. Without further a do, Scroll down to what you need help with, oh and have a great day
---------------------------------------------------
Beginners.
Here are a few handy ones to get you going:
Evil Lu's Local Streaming Tutorial
ILikeTunes Streaming Tutorial
SHOUTcast Configuration Builder
Nak Errors.
There are two types of nak errors. Here is the first one:
yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: 128.128.128.128:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out).
If you see this, your SHOUTcast server cannot get out of your network, it's either you have a firewall blocking it or you haven't forwarded ports. You'll need to forward ports 8000 & 8001 to get out. You can try www.portforward.com for step-by-step instructions on how to forward that. If you're still having troubles or you need more information then try these two tutorials to help:
ILikeTunes Nak Errors
Evil Lu's Fixing Nak Errors
The second is:
yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (This network has been permanently banned due to a previous violation of the SHOUTcast directory terms of service.)
This means your stream is no longer listed, and that you or someone using your subnet has been banned from the YP. This doesnt mean that your stream will no longer work, it just means that Nullsoft will no longer provide a link to it in their listings.
Using vista or Windows 7 and having trouble saving settings in the dsp?
Right click on the Winamp icon and select "Run as Administrator"
Stream Hosting
You can host your own station on your connection but if you get popular you'll need some bandwidth. Bandwidth isnt free and begging on the forums could get you banned and makes you look stupid. A list of hosts are available Here or Here.
Implementing your Station on your Site.
If you want an embedded player you may want to check here for some cool ones.
Listen Links
Your default listen link is compatible in Winamp and Itunes, your link is http://youriphere:8000/listen.pls (to get your ip go to What is my IP).
If you want to make a link for Windows Media Player, make sure your webhost has mime enabled, if you want more information you can click Here. Then, copy and paste this into notepad:
<asx version="3.0">
<entry>
<ref href="http://IP HERE:8000" />
<title>GIVE THE STREAM A TITLE</title>
<author>NAME YOUR STATION HERE</author>
<copyright>SOMETHING TO DISPLAY HERE</copyright>
</entry>
</asx>
Make the appropriate changes then save it as giveatitlehere.asx.
Now you can upload to a web host or send to a friend to open to listen.
For Real player, you can simply paste http://youriphere:8000 in notepad and then save it as giveatitlehere.ram.
Now Playing Scripts
You see some sweet now playing scripts out there and these have to be the best. Before I share them with you, make sure you have a PHP enabled web host. Freewebs and most other free hosting companies dont support php, you can always try google tho. If your webhost doesnt support php, try searching for more scripts that your webhost can support at www.hotscripts.com. Now, to get some sweet looking now playing PHP scripts go to http://www.streamsolutions.co.uk/resources/scripts
Licensing.
If you want your radio to be 100% legal you have two options.
1) Use Unsigned\Indie Bands. You need their Permission to Broadcast their music.
-or-
2) Get Licensing.
Option number 1 is fine, however if you want to play copyrighted music, you'll need some Licensing. There are plenty of sites out there, but heres just a small list for you:
* Loudcity
* SWCast Network
* Live 365
Advertising Your Station, Getting Djs, and Helpful Websites to get you going.
First off, you can't advertise your Station here. It's just not allowed. The only thing you *can* do is adding stuff in your signature. Be sure to follow the forum rules on this. If you want some djs DON'T POST THREADS LOOKING FOR THEM. Djs won't just come to you, you have to come to them. A list of the current Djs available can be found Here.
Your topic not here?
If your topic isn't here use the Search and search for your problem. If you can't find it here then you can post. When you post, please obey the forum rules and use proper Internet Etiquette while posting.
