Titles not streaming

I have shoutcast set up on my Linux server. Everything except song titles works.

(I have searched and been unable to find this info elsewhere, although it seems to be I cannot possibly be the first person with this problem.)

I have gotten it to where the radio station name appears consistently Previously, it would appear for the first song and then display the song filename.

I don't use Windows or Winamp. I check my station stream in Audacious or VLC. Audacious simply displays the station name. VLC displays the filename followed by the station name. I would like the song title from the ID3 data to appear after the station name.

the title depends on the source you've got connected to the DNAS to provide it in the correct manner i.e. via the SHOUTcast v1 protocol as it looks like you're using a v1 DNAS. so you'd need to make sure from the DNAS logs that the source is sending title updates to it to begin with (can also be checked on the admin page of the DNAS).

I got the same problem. No titles are showing up on the web interface but it says "Stream is up at 128 kbps with 0 of 32 listeners (0 unique)"
When I download the pls file I can't play it myself. foobar2000 and MPC say the file is corrupted.

I'm using the old Oddcast foobar2000 DSP to send to the server.

I assume TRANScast Title Update(Mozilla) is what's relevant, but if the log says the title is being updated - and yet it's not - what's missing?

since your stream isn't up at 3am when i was reading I cant check titles. how often are you streaming?

also the log shows yp touched (that is what provides the listing on shoutcast)

I assume 108.28.245.67 is your shoutcast server, but which port ??

If you see titles on the index page them the player should show them. if in fact they are being sent with ID3 tags in the mp3 files them-self.

please let us know when your stream is on, and have someone listen from the internet for more than 10 seconds (according to the log)

hang on a second, are you referring to the song titles in the Directory or in the DNAS as the DNAS is showing Current Song: phvol01_128 so titles are being provided by whatever it is that you're using as the source (i can only assume it is some sort of version of the Transcoder)

also looking on the main site, i can find your stream and it shows just a title and not an artist since the site scripts attempt to work out the title from "%artist% - %title%" and works it out from the - which isn't in any off the titles from your song history.

so first thing i'd do is confirm the version of the Transcoder being used and also that the media you're playing has tags which are in a format which the Transcoder supports.

I fill in the ID3 sections when I create my MP3's. When I play my MP3's directly in a player, from my hard drive, the title shows up. Is that not sufficient for Shoutcast? If not, what do I need to do?

I'm using shoutcast-trans 0.4.0-r1.

In the example above, I want my media player to display "Current song: Programmed Hell, volume 1" - the ID3 title - instead of "Current Song: phvol01_128". What do I need to do to make that happen?

blimey, that's a massively old version of the transcoder so i'm not sure on what you need to do with it to get it working (never used it personally) as i'd guess it doesn't like the ID3 tag format you're using.

ID3v1 should be fine but if it's an ID3v2.x tag, then i don't know (i know sc_trans v2 supports ID3v2.3 and parts of ID3v2.4). so might be you need to update to a newer version of sc_trans to get things working (and i might have to send you a dev build if going that route to resolve some ID3v2.x reading issues with the publically available sc_trans v2 which is available).

But... I see also that I need to buy an MP3 license, and that is a deal-breaker. I don't have the budget for this, especially since I make my music free to listen to and download. :-(

is really down to you as to what you do as i've really no idea what the old sc_trans is able to do and if it can otherwise be changed to work (though my gut is going with it just not being able to process the ID3 tags on your files).

personally i'd go with an aac stream (which has the downside of not being as portable for mobiles, etc - though that seems to be changing to less off an issue as time goes on) and use the latest version of the dnas and transcoder and have it all on the v2 setup (but then i'm a bit biased to using the v2 platform, heh).
