  • SHOUTCast DNAS 2.0 - No Audio

I set up SHOUTCast DNAS 2.0 (sc_serv) on my Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit server for my buddy to stream to from his house. I believe everything is configured correctly, but no audio comes through.

He is able to connect from both SAM Broadcaster and the WinAMP DSP plugin. SAM shows plenty of data being sent, when flipped on. The WinAMP DSP plugin appears to be connected as far as I can tell. The server shows the stream registers correctly, and clients are able to connect and pull the current track name, but no audio comes through.

I realize there are quite a few threads that reference the sound card and settings on the source machine, but the interesting thing here is that he's able to stream to another server (24-hour demo server) with the exact same settings, and everything sounds fine.

Is there anything server-side that could be preventing audio from going out?

Time for a test. What's the server's IP and port.

in your DNAS config file, remove the streampath=test.aac and then reload the config via the admin pages or just restart the DNAS - as that's causing Winamp to not work with the stream (and i need to make sure that streampath thing is removed from the example configs for the next release...).

It worked! Thanks so much. Care to explain what that option does and why it affected playback?

streampath allows you to specify something different from serveraddress/stream/x/ (where x is the stream number) such as serveraddress/lo_bitrate if you want to make it more approachable for people looking at it or needing to forceable indicate the stream type by extension (like the example) or if just wanting it to be different.

it was in the example config files to show off the feature (which is new to the v2 DNAS) but unfortunately with you having a MP3 stream and with the streampath ending in .AAC, it was telling media players conflicting things and so was likely being tried to be processed as an AAC stream instead of looking at the actual stream type.

That makes sense. So, it may have worked had I specified '=test.mp3'. In any case, I prefer letting the app set the URL anyway.

yeah text.mp3 would have worked. basically an over-sight on my part with the examples which has caused more trouble than it was worth - at least you're running now so that's the main thing.

my psychic debugging says... no idea, you've not provided any information about the stream formats, etc to even start to guess at the issue.
