  • Winamp with a Microphone help

I have been trying to add a mic with winamp on my Dell e6520 laptop/

    Windows 7 16gig memory
    Winamp with shoutcast.

I stream an oldies radio station on my main pc and no problem I have a mixer all setup and audio is in stereo and sounds awesome.

    So now my laptop.
windows 7 16 gig memory music streams no problem with Rcast provider.
I use the winamp recommended not soundcard.
in the winamp mode I cant add a mic
in the soundcard option I can use a mic but the music sounds shitty and distorted I have to go back to the winamp option.

Has anyone gotten a mic and music to work at the same time? good mic and good audio.
Would a usb podcast mixer work and do the Job with good results.
Would a external usb sound card work?

I would love to get something to work on my laptop so I can also go remote with good audio like my main PC in my studio.

Been trying on and off to figure this out to get bot to work.

Please if anyone has something working please post here with what you have done.

    thanks dj56

The soundcard mode in the Winamp DSP will only pickup the default recording device of your primary soundcard unless you connect another hardware audio device such as an external USB microphone or similar, this generally causes the OS to switch the default recording device to the new device, but then all you get is voice over the stream, no music.

I have, with LiveWire, recommend also with X-Fade with either NoFlush or ZeroPointer as the output plugin. LiveWire will allow you to select the recording device to use with modes for PTT, Manual fading, and Auto ducking. But then you have to keep the SHOUTcast DSP in "Winamp (Recommended)" source mode. This has the advantage of keeping as much stuff as possible in the digital realm.

You can also try just plugging an external microphone into your mixer and putting the SHOUTcast DSP into Soundcard mode. If that still sounds like crap then you need a better soundcard for this option. Not too expensive, something around $50 - $70 would likely be the best price-to-quality balance.

        Thanks for the reply.

This is my Dell Laptop so I would have to get an external sound card or a external usb mixer. Im looking into that now and hope that will do the job.
Like I mentioned my main PC windows 7 works great I have 4 27 inch monitors set up to bring up all the programs I use and music folders to keep open.
Just toying around to see if I can do the same remotely away from my main PC.
