  • I've installed as stated in the instructions...and I just need some assurance..

Ok, I followed everything in the Intructions contained in one of these threads, but I still have problems accessing the station via the shoutcast directory and connecting to my station.

    This is the log file..

The above is an extract from the log file. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the connection is working. As far as it seems, I can see that I am connected..as I see the number of bytes being sent out..and stuff like that. but why can't I connect to the station using http://my ip:8000/listen.pls ? and also I cannot find my station anywhere at the yellow pages.

    I really need urgent help.
    Thanks

    Josh

Tis a little slow, I am disconnected now though. I think that could be due to some disturbances with my connnection.

127.0.0.1 is the loopback ip address and basically means "me". Search Google for more information.

Remember, lan machines (you) need to use the lan ip of the DNAS to connect/listen.
Non-lan machines (the rest of the world) need to use the real, world-visible ip of the DNAS to connect/listen.

Usually, your station is on the SHOUTcast yp within 15 minutes of the first "yp touched" DNAS message. If you stop and start your server, the timer resets. As Ron Popeil says, "Set it, and forget it!"

If you think you're having bandwidth problems, check out the Sticky post titled:
SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs. READ ME!

Scroll down a bit and look for the section titled:
              1. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> DSLReports Bandwidth tester(Only be concerned with the UPLOAD bandwidth) 2. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> CasterClub's Listener Calculator
              3. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> CasterClub's Bandwidth Calculator

Use 1 to find your upload.
Use 2 to determine the number of listeners you can support at your selected streaming bitrate.

Jay (KXRM) also has a Bandwidth Calculator.

Thanks for all the help mate.

I just have one final question:
"Remember, lan machines (you) need to use the lan ip of the DNAS to connect/listen."
Any idea of how I obtain the Ip for my type of machine?

I tried looking for answers in Google, but it was to no avail.
                Any help would be appreciated.

                Thanks a milion

Ok thanks, but I've tried almost everything and it still fails to work. lol

I got my Ip from the website that you stated, I launched Winamp, and the shoutcast server, after that I connected.

                      The log is as follows:

                      ===========================
I don't think I have bandwidth problems. The problem I am facing is that I am unable to connect or listen to my broadcast when I connect to: http://(my ip):8000/listen.pls . I get a blank, "page not found".

The shoutcast server is operating from my computer, and is not on any other web server. Could that be a problem? I tried re-looking at the Installation procedure and reading the threads available, but I can't seem to find what I am doing wrong.
                      -----------------------------------------------------------------
I really hope you can help me with this.
                      Thanks.

Remember, machines on the same lan as the DNAS need to use the lan ip of the DNAS to connect/listen (this is you).

Machines not on the lan as the DNAS need to use the real, world-visible ip of the DNAS to connect/listen (this is the rest of the world).

I see a "yp.shoutcast.com added me successfully" entry in your DNAS log. This is a 'Good Thing'. The next 'Good Thing' is "yp touched".

hmmm...strange. The address I posted contains my Ip number, since I am running the server from my computer.

looks like I have to try it all over again.

                              Thanks.
