  • This is a chat about the future of NSV technologies

Let's start this off with a rousing game of "Idiots wanna join in". Sure, they might do great in Algebra or World History, but here, they're idiots. Moving on...

The idiots definately want their SAM for video (because reading the instructions is hard). This has been said numerous times and I'm sure all the veterans know this so why provide more links?

The real question is: is there a way to get the current video via a winamp plugin? I know there's in_nsv but most of the video is shown through directshow. I know you can get the audio via DSP, that's why the little shoutcast dsp plugin exists and is popular for the newbies. Is it doable, or would it require a hacked 'input' or 'output' plugin for rendering or displaying the video in order to be able to grab that data live? Ignoring the other problems like "most machines can't encode at 1s/s at all bitrates", we can realize that people can easily determine this from complaints and adjust accordingly. That, or a "tester" program can run through and see which bitrates/codecs are feasable for live streaming.

    ITT we theorize.

    Oh hell,

When I make a post and nobody responds in 3 days, I get sad as i'm sure you are now bulk...

You're right to a certain extent, but I think the great thing about NSV is it's left up to us to make it great.

There's no reason any of the NSVtools repacks couldn't contain more profiles, there's no reason why the nsv_enc_vp6.dll that interfaces vp6 couldn't have a better gui (like a dropdown menu with profiles right after you hit the /config switch) There's no reason the repacks couldn't include more profiles.

To me there's a lot of neat tricks and tips, but no matter how many times we post them, they get buried by the onslaught of "I can't figure it out" posts. I think this forum in paticular needs new moderators. Germ sucks ass, KXRM hasn't contributed anything in a long time, and for the most part, moderator love here is dead.

For instance, I think everything pertanent to NSV broadcasting (FFDshow overlays, AVIsynth subtitles) should be stickied at the top. I think the people that have in the past contributed to NSV should be given moderator powers over this forum. The people moderating it now are nothing more than babysitters, bitchslapping folks when they get out of line. They're not contributing anything useful.

I also think AOL should pay more attention to guys like slavas, maybe PAY him or something to continue developing his VP6 NSV interface. Same goes for Sankt, thanks to scvi.net, I never had to ask 1 question here pertaining to actually broadcasting stuff.

In the whole scheme of winamp things, it's left up to the user. It used to be folks that had someting to contribute would be the one's to moderate the forum. That is why winamp is so cool. That is why you see Tommylobo, PAK9 and Rovastar moderating the AVS forums. Unfortunatly in the case of NSV it's not being left up to folks with any actual working knowledge of the technology, but to folks that don't ever use it, don't give a fuck, and will never have anything to contribute other than some senseless drivel and rhetoric.

I nominate myself as new overlord of the NSV forum.

I'll third it, if only for things that deserve stickyness (and a sticky'd thread of those that sorta do) to get up there. This way when I ridicule someone for not reading the stickies, the excuse of "they're too confusing" isn't as plausable in their attempts to mask that they hadn't even tried to read them.

Also, KXRM needs to get unlazy and release the source for sc_nsv.

(Recently, a group cracked vp6.2 and made a compilable decoder based off the flash decoder that works on more than one OS. Of course, their site, http://libvp62.sf.net, no longer exists. This is on2's commitment to blocking mac users.)

I think that AOL/Nullsoft should release all things pertaining to the SC world. And just that ultravox crap either. If they just left it in the hands of the users to make better, then NSV would be an unstoppable giant in the IP TV comming days. Hell at least, let us fix the damn YP

But really, how do you get Nullsoft to except new moderators? Do we kick of an election? Is there a primary and are the candidates Democrat, Republican, or Jewish? If Inedible Bulk is the candidate, then I give my vote. Let the polls open and the vomiting, sorry voting begin!
