  • They may not even ripen fully in Britain, what ones you do get are usually pretty small and don't compare with the imported ones.

We have two 'chestnuts' in Britain, this one, the Sweet or Spanish chestnut and the Horse chestnut(not edible but avidly collected by kids for playing 'conkers').

In Spain they are known as Castanets because of the shape. Or maybe castenets are named after the tree.

There are a lot of them in Britain, not really grown for the nuts, but the wood. They are easilly copiced and grown to about 3 inches thick before being cut. Traditionally this is used for Hop poles, or split into quarters and used for a particular type of fencing known as chestnut palings. or turned into charcoal.

I like to see the full grown tree though, they have a beautfully sculpted bark.

    • There are two in this picture [small middle, large right; the big middle (behind) is a black walnut tree] - it's not quality photography, as it was taken with a cheap point-and-shoot a couple years ago. Since it was taken in early July, instead of what you posted, you see the light colored "flowers" which turn brown and fall prior to making the nuts (around mid-late July). I can still remember forgetting to keep shoes on and accidentally stepping on those spiny things when they finally fell in late September/October.

I've really got to get a D80. These were done with a couple of Kodaks and it shows.

            • We all know how the moon lights up the night on Earth.
What we don't often think about is how the Earth lights up the moon at 'night' aswell.

here you can clearly see the surface of the moon against the dark sky.

Sorry for the grainy outcome but if you can do better, please share your pictures and share what equipment you used.
for me: Sony A350 with a Sigma 70-300 1:4-5.6 lens. EXIF info is in the image

              • I like your picture of the moon. I am curious to find out how much walking it would take to go from the dimmer side to the brighter side if you were near that line. It's been a while since I have posted new photography here. The way I know that is not because of the date on the post, but because the small chestnut tree in my last post is more than twice that height now lol.

                • I have also a moon-photo, which I have edited with Lunapic (an online image editor). The .gif-images appear in my YouTube-Upload "KLAL! - Lied der Sterne pt. 2 (edited) ":
Here is an edited version from the last part of the track "Lied der Sterne". It exists a long version with vocals by John L., available on the album "KLAL!" ...

My photo-galleries in Facebook & Photobucket, Picasa & Google+ are updated so many times, if I have new photos. Recently I did a search for ".bmp" in D > SabineKlare2 > Bilder2. I have found some .bmp-files. I have edited a few of them. They are online, too. These are the 2 links:

The Facebook-Album currently contains 37 sub-albums, but like I said, the next photo-albums could come soon...

I made remixes of 2 own .bmp-files. Also I have many downloaded .png- & .jpg-files, incl. some very beautiful artwork from some other artists, for example the kaleidoscoped fractal album art with logo. I wasn't able to resist, I made a remix also from 4 .jpg-files from the other artist. The results are very interesting (although the pixel-sizes are very small), but I cannot share them. I have looked into the structures, and there is a difference between the .bmp-remixes and the .jpg-remixes. Maybe I will do some other image-remixes soon...

                  • I had my acrylic portrait painted from a photo I sent to Noble Portrait. And I have thus become their art model, haha.

What do you guys think? Although you can't see it clearly on the picture, it's a very high-quality painting.

(though I'm currently digitizing old family slides, most of which are far softer than this, even ones shot with an slr and high quality film)

                      • What lens were you using to get F1.7? I haven't taken a picture with a Sony camera for a long time. What do you think of that model?

That is a goal of mine, but I need to find an affordable way to do it. I have a good computer and terabytes of storage, but I'll take any suggestions on how to digitize a couple thousand 35mm slides. I would be willing to put a ton of time into it, but the money is hard to get sometimes.

http://www.lensporn.net/2011/12/revi...mount-cctv.htm (I've got the slr magic version because the original wasn't as easily available back then.)

1.7 isn't that special though, you can adapt any fast slr or rangefinder lens (even a Leica Noctilux if you happen to have one lying around) and (with slr lenses) use a focal reducer to gain another stop and get almost the same field of view (though not quite the same image quality) as with a full frame camera.

It's alright. Not the best for action shooters or people who change settings all the time, and video quality isn't great, but otherwise it's still good enough.
I recently got an a6000 which is a lot better in many ways, but image quality in decent light is very similar (in raw mode at least, and unless you actually need 24mp) so I'm keeping the old nex as backup, that way I don't have to change lenses all the time.

I'm using a slide projector with a translucent sheet of plastic added behind the slide holder and a macro lens. A good macro adapter for the fz1000 should work too. But you'll probably have to shoot raw, at least in my experience the colours almost always need some touching up. Also, illumination isn't perfectly even* and you won't get any automatic dust or scratch removal.

There are also scanners that use the same mechanism as a projector and can scan whole magazines in one go, but they still need several minutes per image and aren't cheap either.

*wasn't able to remove any condenser lenses inside the projector (which might improve this, the online tutorials I saw recommend removing at least one or even both (but make sure you leave the heat filter in place)) without completely tearing it apart

I myself have planned to upload 60 more desktop wallpapers & Komodo backgrounds on deviantART soon. Here I have again the link to my gallery...
