  • Cowboy Bebop - The Real Folk Blues

Looks like I'm keeping up my trend of posting a new skin about once a year. I hope everyone's doing well in these strange times.

You might remember my first Cowboy Bebop skin - https://www.deviantart.com/luigihann...-Tank-29203475

That one's based on Cowboy Bebop's opening animation.

Recently there was a big charity performance of Cowboy Bebop's ending theme, The Real Folk Blues: https://youtu.be/8GwE0wwMmKE

I was very inspired by that performance, so I've remixed that skin to match the ending animation sequence from the show.

I don't have the original PSD's from when I made the old skin, but I was able to integrate some images and apply filters to the colors, and it feels pretty fresh. The subdued colors actually tone down the busy look of the old skin, so I'm pleased with the remix.

    Download here: https://www.deviantart.com/luigihann...lues-840277256

    Test in browser here: https://webamp.org/?skinUrl=https://...e43888e269.wsz

    Enjoy.

It reminds me a bit of this for some reason.

        Fancy meeting you here o/

Haha, it is a similar vibe. The old one was maybe more Gaga but the new one in monochrome leans more Dada.

Do you have the old Dada skin itself? I remember looking for it a while back and not finding it anywhere anymore.

Bummer. Thank you for looking! I'll post here if I stumble across it again elsewhere.

I think the problem with dada was it might not ever have been published on winamp, that's probably why it hasn't been database scraped all over the shop, I can find links to Xerxes skins all over the net, but not that one, I did find one link that had his write up for the skin, but downloaded some generic W2k style thing.

                    Voila!

Old 2.x version, no media lib, video, gen ex bit added to this one, again, not sure if it was ever updated during the time when there was a lot of upgrading going on, not a big leap though it you wanted to patch it up for personal use.

Oh and so as to not go totally off track, I tested out your newborn, on actual hardware, yes I came back to using Winamp after many moons away, no obvious bugs spotted in it, like there was likely to be anyhow.

Can't say I know the subject matter, but it hangs together nicely.

Makes me wanna pick up the tools again in this time of weird lockdowns, wonder if I can still remember how it all fits together, or maybe I should dig up some of the many unfinished bits and pieces knocking around my backups, some are like 95% done, maybe missing cursors or some quick and easy ML windows etc.

                      Hmmmmmmmm

                        Thanks!

Yeah, I find that on modern computers Winamp seems much smaller and less daunting, so you might find it's easy to finish a skin that's been sitting at 95%.

Yeah, I think I might manage a few bitmaps, but anything bigger than that is probably out of the question, it's amazing what you forget over time, I've just been looking at some modern skins, I'd totally forgotten I'd coded up your Samurai Champloo Modern skin, along with a ton of other stuff for Nullsoft back in the day, I can't make head nor tail of the coding in it any more !, though I did leave copious comments in the code , probably to remind myself as I went along what I was doing next.

A serious refresher course would be needed before going back down that rabbit hole
