  • Help to add Album Art window to my skin?

Hello, everyone. I was really glad to find out that there will be an update coming out sometime this year!

I'm using a custom skin that I found years ago:

As you can see in the screenshot, it already has a VU meter window. So, adding an album art window should be doable.

I looked at the album art components of the Winamp Modern skin, but porting it to the other skin is beyond my capabilities. Is there anyone here that feels like tackling this? I can create the graphical elements (title bar, window frame, etc.), by copy/pasting from the existing graphics.

I have attached the skin and spectrum analyzer. (The spectrum analyzer is an AVS config. Happy to share it for anyone that wants it.)

    Thanks, and Happy New Year!

Awesome, thanks! I'm not sure what I did wrong with the attachment, so here's a dropbox link:

Let me know if it doesn't work. Thanks again!

Wait, what? Sorry for my ignorance! How are you displaying an album art window from the skin I'm using?

I've looked through all the menus and don't see it, like I do when using the Modern skin:

I don't see "Album Art" listed in the main context menu. I also don't see any album art related scripts or xml files among this skin's files. Do you have the "Album Art Viewer" plug-in (http://winampplugins.co.uk/gen_classicart/index.html) installed?

Weird, I'm not seeing it on my end. Those "AL" items in my screenshot (under VU small) are for the Album List plugin.

Can you send me a screenshot of what you're seeing?

That's what I'm hoping someone will add to it. I looked at the files and scripts in the Winamp Modern skin, but wasn't able to figure out how to transpose them to mine.

I did, but it doesn't display anything with this skin. Doesn't even display a window.

EDIT: Actually, it does work! For some weird reason, it has to be un-checked in the menu. It won't display if it is checked.

The plug-in was made for classic skins since most modern skins have their own ways to display album art. But it does work with some modern skins. I'm glad it worked for you.

Thanks, but I'd still like native support for album art in the skin. It would be one less plugin to deal with, especially since this one has to be loaded manually every time I launch Winamp.

Well, you usually can't just copy files from 1 skin to another (different variable names, etc.). Someone would have to write (or edit) and compile new scripts for this skin. The old generic album art scripts are probably no longer compatible with recent Winamp versions. There are few active skinners at the moment (mostly involved with their own projects). Maybe one of them will notice this thread and take an interest in helping.

Hopefully scottiescotsman will post again, explaining more about how he got this skin to display album art.

                        Good luck.

Fair enough. At least you got me to give that plugin another try.

                            Hi Scienscatologist,

I'm not having the issues you mentioned using the Album Art Viewer plug-in with this skin. The indicator (check-mark) in the main context menu appears like it should when the album art window is visible or not and I don't have to manually load the plug-in when starting Winamp. Have you setup the plug-in's configuration options? I assume you're using the current patched version of Winamp.

Open Winamp Preferences (Ctrl+P) and scroll down and select "Plug-ins - General Purpose" on the left. Then select "Album Art v1.03" in the window on the right and click the "Configure selected plug-in" button at the bottom of that window.

Disable the "Auto-hide widow with modern skins" option and enable the "Auto-hide" (which is counter-intuitive ) and "Show album art for selected playlist item" options. Enable or disable the other 3 options as you like. If you enable the "Embed window into the Media Library" option, then the album art will appear on the left side of the Media Library window instead of in a separate window of it's own. Close the Winamp Preferences and restart Winamp for the enabled options to take affect.

Sometimes 3rd party plug-ins interfere with each other (and/or Winamp) and can change what is shown in the main context menu. Maybe that is the reason for what you're seeing.

The attached albumart.zip contains the album art files of Ashen Player. Thank you iron2000!

Copy the contents of the scripts and xml folders into the respective directories of your skin and add this line to skin.xml:

                              <include file="xml/albumart.xml"/>
